Does fiddling with someone elses divvie count, came off in the snow, needs some work, well it has had a new indicator fitted, and as we were asked about the speedometer being faulty, it turns out the drive washer is broken, that in turn means a new drive gear needed, expensive and out of stock, over £50 for the drive gear alone!

Having taken the angle grinder to the disk lock, which wouldn't undo, the key was just spinning in the lock, I took it for an MOT. It passed ;D

Looked at the 900. Thought, I wonder if there are any redbacks mixed in with those cobwebs? Hmm....needs an oil change and a wash : for the 4 or 5 day ride coming up. Looking forward to the mountain roads and valleys!

No, I found the only colour blind MOT tester in the North East. Anyway, aesthetic faults are not an MOT failure. If they were any pink cars over three years old would have to be scrapped.

Got the R6 master cylinder nailed onto it and bled, then went hunting for the dodgy connection that's made the tail light spend more time off than on. Found a couple of green furry connectors and cleaned 'em up, but still no joy, sounds like a broken wire somewhere, bugger! Okey-dokey, out with the spare wire, heatshrink and solder and patch a new line in from the sidelight back to the ar$e end, that'll sort the bugger until I can afford the time to go over the wiring loom in detail.

Took advantage of an engine oil change to remove the engine clutch and gear change covers as corrosion had lifted off the paint in some places - they'll go off to the powder coaters. The inside of the clutch cover was covered in an oil mayonnaise above engine oil level: The gearchange chamber wasn't as bad, just pooling where arrowed: Must be down to me riding short distances over the winter. The final drive was weeping oil from its breather at the top, but renewing the oil resolved the weeping. Removed, then greased the sidestand pivot as it seems spray grease never trickles down to the pivot with the stand in place.

Pulled a rag through the breather pipe between air box and the engine gearchange cover to clear it of cold weather oil mayonnaise. Cleared the tiny breather hole in the airbox for the engine valve cover breather as this was blocked.
While the airbox and fuel tank were off, checked the wiring loom connectors for bad connections. Greased the connector terminals with Vaseline to keep verdigris at bay.
Bike starts readily, but hard to know whether this is down to clearing the breathers or the warmer weather.

Popped a couple of brass vacuum take-offs in pots 1 & 2 (already got 'em in 3&4), then whipped out the tube onna stick and found out just how badly out of balance the carbs were! No longer, they're now within a quarter inch of ATF of each other, much smoothness is mine.....

One of the downpipes was blowing. On inspection found the exhaust clamp floating about. The reason being Didn't know stainless steel could rot like this. However, mechanic friend suggested that it will be that special Chinese grade stainless. Couldn't get a clamp that didn't involve removing the exhaust. So problem solved:

Imagine if that clamp had stayed in tact trying to undo that bolt, probably did you a favour it snapping, nice simple botchfix, done the job

Had two new keys cut. When I got the bike it had two keys: one very worn one and one relatively good one.
I have been using the good one until nearly losing it this morning.
So now I am using one of the newly cut keys; keeping the original as a template should any more need cutting.
