Well, now she's upright I can get to the sump plug properly ..... so I did. Then went mad and put fresh EP80/90 in the bevel box, good job too as only 100ml of thin black wee came out ... !

7am Chrome Cleaning on my 2002. Did it rain ten minutes later ? It did, but I now try and clean it the day before use so at least it is clean for 24 hours. I have been looking at those front fender extensions to try and keep a bit more rubbish off pipes. Anyone know if they are worth doing?

I have been looking at those front fender extensions to try and keep a bit more rubbish off pipes. Anyone know if they are worth doing? Definitely worth using the extender, stops the front wheel shot blasting grit over the front of the engine, especially one in as good condition as yours. I extended my extenda further, using an engine oil container (see pics posted within this thread).

Replaced the candle-power dash warning lights with LEDs. What a transformation - so much brighter in direct sun. Just today while riding, I glanced down realising I'd left the indicators on - wouldn't have spotted that with the old bulbs. Before: After: The low fuel warning light won't work with an LED anyway so its filament bulb was left in place. Travelling cross country in darkness, the LEDs don't dazzle. Used 'uni-directional' LEDs, to stop light spilling over into the other warning lights. Available from ebay: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221520606005?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Bike's running fine, but engine sounds rattly despite setting the valve clearances, regular carb balancing and resetting the camchain tensioner. Youtube videos of idling D9s also show rattly engines, so perhaps that was the way they sounded when new anyway. cheers for the link by the way just bought some ... dave. Good stuff. Just remembered - the LEDs are polarity sensitive, so if the bulb does not work, rotate it 180 degrees then try again in the socket.

Good luck with led panel lights! I tried these and within 12 months they all failed. Back on bulbs now they last longer!

Changed spark plugs. Not a big job you would think, no? When you discover that pots 2 & 3 have the plugs only screwed in halfway yet they're tight...... Old plug, dremel a groove down the thread then it's time to clean/recut the plug'ole. In, out, in, out, loadsa lube (ooer!) eventually got clean threads, just hope nothing nasty has dropped in to pay a visit to the pistons.......

Took off front and rear Avon Roadriders, and threw them as far as I could. In fairness, I had no complaints about these tyres when new, but these still appear to have plenty of tread left after 5k miles but had become terrifying in the wet to the point where I virtually had to steer gingerly round corners with both feet down.
Fitted Michelin PR2s, and I've got my old bike back. No more unplanned stepping out of line whilst leaned over on wet tarmac, or on white lines, or where the road surface is a bit uneven, or where the camber changes. Even the legendary hands-off-head-shake has gone. Happy boy.

Fired her up this morning, fuel started pishing out of the carbs, bugger! Easiest bike I've ever had to get the carbs off, no skinning knuckles trying to get hardened rubber to make room (Bandit owners will know what this is like!). Anyway, got them into the shed and dug out 16 years worth of shite from the float bowls - pots 2 & 3 looked like they'd just run the Paris-Dakar! Quick blast round with carb cleaner and we're good to go. Also lubed up the choke mechanism so now it goes all the way off - been riding all summer with the choke partly on, no wonder it was only doing low 30's mpg!

Took mine for a ride out to the sea side (Cleethorpes) and back. Then cleaned it and put it away and went on the Newark Beermuda Triangle festival. Hic. ?
