Yes whereas like on my Viva car you have a seperate solenoid and starter bendix that engages via a strong spring return most cars and bikes I believe have long since had pre engage starters and isnt the solenoid built into the D9 side? I know you said you could bump start it but try rocking it back and fourth, in gear as that can often unjam the device, that then allows the screwdriver bypass to turn with little resistance.I am pretty certain that your solenoid is faulty if you just get a click. OK I could be wrong and it may be the bushes however it doesnt sound like it from the description you gave. However if you think it is the starter try find an auto electrician to test it and frault. I did that after ebuilding my old V8 car and even after ordering a new starter from the States it still wouldnt turn over. A friend with a same year TBirt reckoned he was using a Mini Solenoid so putting aside my doubts on that score I got one, car fired up, and actually ran after my lengthy engine rebuild. Good luck hope yu gets it licked...
