Hairdressing beards? When I was struggling to keep up HP payments on my little Suzy 185 GT and gave up cigarettes to help and run a home too, my only ever new bike if I had time off from my 24/7 12 hour shifts on security on occassional rest days, I used to ride over to Searings in Stortford and drool over the SS 750 and 900 Ducattis on display the window. They remained in there forages because folk were wary of their reliability, especially the electrics but like Guzzis they had brilliant if rust prone Brembo Discs which actually worked despite the calipers being mounted inthe spray outdone oft the leading edge of the forks. There was also a Hesketh in Searings which was still there after those gorgeous Decats. However I loved the look of the 750 Guzzi LeMans which had interlinked brakes just like what my Aprilia Atlantic Silver Garey 500 scoot has and very good they are too. Actually despite the Rotax one two five having a fit of the grumps occassionally if not run for a while, I know how to cope with its occasional, fits of temporement, but then it's over 20 years old a bit younger than the original one in the shed, I have owned 6 Aprilia's in 15 years, and currently have 4' the Futura written off, the sum total costs have been with replacement batteries and the Mille which had a new battery but needed a solonoid( 8 quid inclusive from China, mechanically they have all been completely trouble free. I like Italian stuff but sure Japanese is now a reliability byword and that wasn't always the case.
The Red Rose even restricted is afar superior machine to the Japs of the period, and when I get around to fishing out of the shed and put the good bits off the restricted ones as it is unrestricted will do a genuine 90 MPH, 5 faster than I ever coaxed the GT185 out of, anyway yes I wouldn't mind a Guzzi but really want an MVeven the Cagiva VRaptor with its MV frame andSuzi VTwin could also strike the right chord, however best to concentrate on completing some of the hairdresser craplaying about first.
Oh and I bought another sailing boat today to recoup on and have some fun in the Sun?? maybe the bikes will be taking a temporary back seat, metaphorically .

i've heard good things about bandits and i'm sure theyre good bikes but i've owned a suzuki before, for a good long while too, and they just do absolutely nothing for me as a whole, much unlike yamaha bikes. plus i cannot stand f****** fuel injection and water cooled engines. hence why i ended up with a divvy hahaha. i hate the idea that my bike can break down somewhere and it being a simple fix but i cant do a thing because its controlled by an ecu. theyre restrictive and too fancy for me; i love my old raggedy carburetors, they're a work of genius and personally if i could have even less electronics on a bike i would have it! i'm actually looking into other smaller bikes too for my project too, sr500, xs650 sort of stuff; old and simple is best! if anyone has suggestions on good single or two cylinder bikes (preferably yamaha) or knows of any going cheap, give me a shout i'd love to get some hear about it

Go for the Bandit, you need a decent bike in that list of hairdryers bikes you have
Actually since you have a penchant for Italian crap why don't you get yourself a Guzzi, generally they're lovely to look at. I loved looking at mine, I just hated riding it.
Don't buy the carb version bandit, if you like to leave it unused for a few weeks, injection bikes fair much better. Absolutely, used to spend nearly as much time getting it running as riding it. Still loved it.

Yep I heard that two but then Virago carbs aren't wonderfull either as I found on my first Sachs VTwin however the plan is to fit the Sachs one in the original Red Rose Frame then I can do an Arny, I want your bike your clothes etc, or that's what someone said when I posted this pic elsewhere so. and just for the record it was Boxing Day and I treated myself to a new leather jacket, which I had to wear over my suede wind cheater, which makes one look more bulky , 'onest Guv

This morning I did a temp repair on my collector box (end has rotted away) to avoid an MOT failure. Employed an Old Speckled Hen beer can (empty!) & 2 42mm exhaust clamps: Bodgetastic!

Gave it the once over checking brake pads, oil levels etc.
Repaired a wire to the horn. A previous owner has at some time replaced the horn and used in line crimps to join the wires. One of the wires broke last week.
Typically, after never using the horn once, there were two occasions when it would have been useful. But of course it wasn't working.

Think back to 1981. You didn't used to own a white Alfasud 1.5 ti did you? I bought one at auction that had something very similar on its exhaust. Along with a few other 'none factory' items.

New discs & new tyre to follow . Bugger me if the new tyre just wouldn't seat properly. Tried all the usual tricks, in the end conceded I'd better remove & refit - blow me, it seated perfectly 2nd time around & now sits proudly upon it's shiny rim . NB: Old tyre was still legal - a Maxxis Touring tyre, but had worn rather like the Bridgestones do & it exacerbated a mild hands-off-the-bars wheel wobble into a near tank-slapper. With swing-arm bearings etc all sorted now, it should be the final issue that can be responsible for that wobble.

I look at mine and wonder how they would look polished. Even just the outer rim. Nice. For a bit! Polished rims = plenty of effort creating them. Then plenty of regular maintenance polishing!

You got a link for these discs. I have: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171963096508?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT........ Some would say 'Chinese Crap' but they look nicely finished & from clicking buy-it-now on Sunday 29th May evening to delivery only took 5 days! (Got to say - I'm suspicious & think they must have already been in the UK. The postage label was Royal Mail & there was a UK & Chinese address, so a bit odd. Not complaining at the speed of delivery though . ) £120 a pair, delivered! That'll do me.

What with the new tyre & titanium bolts, that wheel is probably worth more than my whole bike. Not doubt Bev will tell me that I could improve its value if I change the colour of the swingarm. Well Bev some things are worth more than money.

Recently (since i always forget to post when i actually do things) i've done a few things Firstly i got some bar weights and theyre absolutely glorious things, completely sort out the vibing on the bars and make the bike even easier to ride. I switched the gear lever for a shorter one (off a hyabusa i believe) since my feet are dinky and now i find neutral a lot less when i'm looking for second i also repaired my broken touring screen with some resin and ingenuity and wow what a difference! i've never had a bike with a fairing before, let alone a touring screen, i couldnt believe how easy it is to ride with it! now, to the tricky part: often when i had been riding around i'd lose power and my engine wouldnt rev quite how it should for a little bit and id sort of just passed it off as little bits of filth blocking my jets that would pass eventually. after a while when it would happen i would ride along while going through all of the things it could be, since it would invariably manage to sort its self before i could pull over or get home, eventually deciding it was a cylinder would be crapping out and spark that was the problem and that when it happened, a little wiggle of my spark plug cables would sort it. So, i decided to ride down to Leeds from Glasgow, safe in the knowledge that i could sort it out if it went wrong, and knowing that i could ride on it when it was wheezing anyway. turns out i was wrong and i rode almost the entire 250 miles home with no power! once home, while investigating what it could be, i had run the engine a few times, so the pipes should have been hot but i noticed that the middle two were stone cold... that realisation coupled with being able to smell unburnt fuel when the bike was running means it must be my ignition coil! whipped the tank off, puched all the connections back on, run the bike, and its sorted! i swear it has more power now than it did before too, maybe because of all the little checks and tweaks i did to find out whats wrong , maybe just elation at it running on all four cylinders again and having full power after 250 miles of dodgy power and another 250 miles of zero power was quite the interesting ride and hugely confidence inspiring, oddly enough, with all that went wrong (got lost and run out of fuel AND lost my bank card too). i'm so much happier on a bike thats not run by a computer, with ECU bikes i would have been fretting and been pished off the whole time but with my trusty divvy i was completely zen the whole way (although a touch hot on the 4 mile trek to get fuel with my gear on). I've also decided i'm going to call my bike Jon Snow because none of my dials work, it knows nothing really should fix that speedo... well, back to work i suppose!
