Spike, do you know how often the timing chain needs changing bud?

I have heard of D9s going to 120,000 and beyond without any work - apart from servicing. I would only think of changing timing chain if it was making a noise. Can't ever remember anyone on here changing one. Don't go looking for work unless its broke. My own D9 has covered 86k miles. Hope this helps.

Hi, names Alex, live in Peterborough and ride an R reg Divvy 600 I bought about 3 weeks ago. Love the bike but like others got bit scared by the old "Clutch rattle of death" thingy until I found out it's common and not serious. Think I'll let sleeping dogs lie. Other bikes I've ridden was a yammy YBR 125 which got burnt out by thieving scroats and a Lexmoto my brother gave to me to help me out.

Hi I Am Mark Paskin From Tipton in the west mids....is there any difference between the xj 900 diversion and the xj 900 pre diversion rear swing arms

Hi and welcome. I never had the old XJ900, but I am 99% sure the swing arm is different. The old bike had twin shocks for a kick off, whereas the Diversion has monoshock. Hope this helps Please call back.

Hi and welcome. What bikes have you had (or maybe still got?). I have had mine 20 years. The only thing I have against it, is the weight when moving it around. As I get older it is more noticeable. Please stick around - there's loads of info on here if you ever need it. ATB

Hi all,
My name is Andrew, and I am an Australian expat living in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
My wife and I moved here "Just for two years"... 6.5 years ago; a time-frame that has also coincided with the longest period in my adult life without a motorbike.
Or at least up until two days ago that was the case. NOW I have a 2001 XJ900P in my driveway, and I am more than a little bit happy about that. So, it's an ex police bike, and comes to me with 4000kms (2.5k Miles) on it. Apparently it was one of a couple of hundred they bought, and somehow they just forgot to use it1.
In short, it's a cracker, and I paid very little for it - a benefit of the 'bling'attitude here is that anything that isn't high on the trend scale or is more than 3 years old *gasp!* is not desirable. Apparently getting a loan for a bike you can't really afford is, but hey, each to their own. I have no desire to pretend that I'm a bad-ass. So it all suits me fine...
Why am I cluttering up your forum? Well, I've got questions and any search for XJ900 club loads this place as the go to point for all Diversionary pursuits. So... here I am.
Hope that's okay,
See you on the boards!
1 Work done so far: Carbs off and cleaned, Tank cleaned. New oil and filters (oil and fuel). Brake fluid flushed. Runs like a champ!

Hi all, My name is Andrew, and I am an Australian expat living in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Welcome aboard, Andrew. No shortage of advice here, some good, some less so, & some totally unconnected with the original question . Enjoy the 'new' bike - can't be many around with that low mileage !

Hey!
Thanks for the welcome!
re: Price - 10,500 dirhams... which works out to be just under £2000, depending on which way the exchange rate is going. No idea what shipping costs are involved to the UK!
I'm not sure how that translates to UK local prices - but I did some searching through the Australian sales lists and it appears that that's about £1000 less than the same bike in Aus with 40k miles on it, and a couple of hundred £ less than a 1997 with 75k miles.
Not a bad get!
:-)

Hi Satnav, I'm originally from Dorset so I'm not impressed with the rugby either although as you can imagine there is a lot of discussion going on re: that Scotland decision over here
