Looking at the weather forecast for Sunday, and if it is to be believed, then we are in for some high winds and heavy rain. Not my idea of fun so I'll probably give this one a miss

Bin lid will probably be wide open, thought this was your testing criteria? Quite correct. Although I often ride in heavy rain and wind, I don't do it for fun. Had to visit a client on the company bike in sarf london recently, torrential rain there and back wasn't fun at all.

Anyhow - it's officially stopped raining here, so runsters can venture forth, free to live a life of religious fulfilment . (Who knew, the UK tabloids would big-up the weather .)

Ian has arrived safe & sound - seems a bit moist, but that might just be his excitement at the prospect of spending a night at Chez M40Man :

What's a bit of moisture between friends? :-O
Nice outfit - now then, I'm referring to Ian's not referring back to that awful dodgy nurse's one.

I'll be there if:
a) I get up in time b) It's not icy on the lane here c) The bike will start
Also I'll need to be home by about 16:30 as I'm looking after next door's chooks and need to lock them away before Mr Fox gets them.

Must be getting too sensible in my old age, roads unexpectedly icy over here and bin lid well stuck down! That combined with heavy rain and high winds later! Have decided my head should rule my heart, based on previous experience!
Have a great run, stay safe

Frosty here this morning, so we will make the breakfast meet & then play it by ear, seeing how the roads are. If we abandon the run part-way, we'll txt an appropriate adult to let folks know .

I hope the Ural is being rescued okay - great looking machine.
Nice to meet you all again.

Potential black ice on way up. Divvy only fires on two pots in the wet. Orthotic shoes falling apart riding in rain. lack of sleep last night. I admit to being a southern softy Ian (Penfold) is hardcore. 500 miles at 50 in the rain. but if the Urals broken perhaps you go home by train? Or stay with me? borrow a spare D9 to ride home?

Got back about 15.20 having baled out at Hungerford when Ian broke down surprisingly good ride back the sort of rain that clears off the visor & cleans of the spray from cars the water eventually got into my right boot about 1/2 hour from home but the rain had as good as stopped by then Cheers to Martin for putting on the run but not so keen on his comment at the lunch stop "where is all this rain they forecast" we went outside & it started Hope to catch up with the brave souls who made it today & the wimps who didn't on a warmer & dryer run later on in the year. Billywhizz's breakdown services...now available !!!
sorry I missed you at your lunch stop today, my timings (and the distance!) were some what out, however, it proved to be a blessing in disguise (for Ian and his ural)
i was just loitering, when the breakdown call came in, so off I went and hooked up the ural and towed them to the grovy grove dwelling. first time towing a bike, or a combo...the Ovlov coped magnificently, but frightened the bottom burping cumbrian dweller, poor bloke on a broken urinal with carp brakes being pulled along some 3 metres behind some tin can with high winds and very wet roads, visability must have been horrendous, and with the emergency signal being a pap of the horn, i turned the stereo up, oh and the heating!! and ploughed on regardless.
hope it's an easy fix in the morning Ian..
see, sometimes using the car actually works! ( can't say why I didn't go on the bike, but was chilly!)

I baled out (sorry) but the amount of frost up here this morning wasn't a good omen. That, and 2 hours of motorway in sub zero temps just to get to the start was just too much. I did go for a run out to Ironbridge with the bro and all was fine but I'm knackered now. Ive not used the bike much in the last 2 months so need to sort that out. Its rubbed in just how fast fitness declines.

Sorry I didn't make it - kept checking the ice on the road and around 10 decided to go for it, even though there was still some on the surface of the puddles. But by the time I'd waded through the floods, filled up the bike and managed to get away from the petrol station cashier (a Ducati owner who was obviously bored stiff and wanted a long chat), I got to Wantage bang on 10:30 but you'd all b****ed off.
No problem, I had a plan B - a rideout with some TVAM folks at midday. I did wave at Flymo (I think) who was marking at the Total station in Hungerford, and Neil on the mini-roundabout, as we went through in the other direction. Hope you guys didn't have to wait too long for the broken-down Ural. After a blast down the A338 we went over to Marlborough (where the flavor is) for a coffee stop at Polly's Tea Rooms - very smart, famous for its cakes. Then a quick gallop under the White Horse back to Wantage, with only the occasional slide (I really must change that back tyre) to steady the pace.
Hope you all enjoyed your ride as much as we did.
