Investigated some slight play in my rear shock linkage this morning - oddly, the bearings all seemed sound so a re-grease was all I did. Checked the swing-arm too, no play there. I cleaned it up a bit whilst I was in there, obviously : Play is still there afterwards - maybe a little less than before. I don't really understand why it's still there though - bit of a mystery.

Zooming in , it looks to me as though there is a bit of uneven wear around the longer bush collet. Could this be the cause of your foreplay?

... a bit of uneven wear around the longer bush collet... I think that's an optical illusion - I had all the collets out, checked the roller bearings ran nicely (one was a little rough, but not bad). Re-packed with grease & popped the collets back in - not 100% flush for the photo, but the collets were a snug fit & the dust seals all good - except for one, which was missing. I was expecting the missing seal would be hiding a destroyed needle roller bearing, but actually it was fine.) Closer look:

Hmm, only other thought I have is...are the inside of the beings slightly oval, giving you your play? Either way shouldn't worry too much, if I were you (And I never thought I would say that about your mechanicing skills)

Well i now have some fazer 600(1999) blue spots, new pads, new seals and the tool to back em out . any tips on fitting/stripping and refurb etc ? I've always considered them a bit easier than stock D9 calipers. Do them as you would others - the tool to back them out? Is that the huge thing that fits in the recess on the outside that some Ebay sellers advertise? If so, I suspect you'll find you don't have any need for it.

Gave my rear brake caliper a bit of a clean-up this morning. One seized bleed nipple eventually came out without snapping, which was a bonus . Took the other one out & used it to run into the seized one's orifice & back out again then applied some copperslip to the naughty one & put it back. All well for now - but I'm going to treat the old girl to a pair of new ones soon.

It would be nice to get the weather to ride the bike at the moment, howling winds and torrential rain with flooding and road closures is making driving the car unpleasant.

Whilst the promised Boxing Day rain holds off, I started refurb work on a spare D9 rear wheel, recently acquired. It's always exciting removing old brake discs :

Looks good, could also be a new security device to stop someone breaking into the shed. Would give you a hell of a headache.

Fitted new tyre on my refurb'd wheel this afternoon: ......... remembered just in time to fit a valve - I was all ready to pop the tyre on before it dawned on me I'd left a gaping orifice .

......... remembered just in time to fit a valve - I was all ready to pop the tyre on before it dawned on me I'd left a gaping orifice . ........ & after taking the tyre back off & finding & fitting a valve, if only I'd checked the rotation arrows before remounting ...... Oh well, back to the drawing board .

Oh well, back to the drawing board . Never tried changing a tyre on the Diversion myself, take it you need a bit more than just old fashioned tyre levers to get them on and off!? Used to do it fairly often on my MZs with their tubed tyres suppose I asumed it wouldn't work out too well doing it myself without the right equipment. That wheel looks great after painting, what sort of paint did you use?

That wheel looks great after painting, what sort of paint did you use? You're not that far away from me - next time you need a new tyre get one online & we can fit it together, show you the ropes. Heck, might even fit it the right way round . Paint was just Carplan Silver-06 for the main wheel, & Hycote aluminium for the shroud which covers the final drive coupling.
