Speed doesn't contribute to many crashes. Bike emmisions are low in use (because we don't queue in traffic.)
However I find it pretty hard to frame an argument against speed limiters since the law already prevents us going any faster than 70mph anyway.
Is it ok to object to things without a logical case?

Don't think it's worth arguing until we know what speed they are thinking about limiting to...

Isn't there already a gentleman's agreement not to produce bikes that will do more than 186mph? What more limit do we need? How is a bike restricted to, say 70 mph, going to be any safer than an unrestricted one going down an icy country lane? Or stop cars pulling out on the motorcycle? What happens when you go to Germany? How many bike accident happen at 'excessive' speed. Although many crashes occur because of speed, this is inappropriate speed (ie trying to take a 40mph bend at 50mph for example). If excessive speed is a major factor in bike crashes (not just excessive speed for the conditions), then I would probably be a little bit in favour of it.

I'd be all in favour of speed limiters if they propose to limit all traffic and not just Bikes. Depending on what the limits would be. Accelleration limiting is a different matter.
After all the government knows best, especially as those proposing this have probably never been near a Bike in their lives.
We really should stop running into cars you know.
Mind you the 170mph tit, and his like, who got caught after posting on the web are to blame for this hysteria.

MCN did a piece on thsi a few months ago. I think the tester said he felt teh bike to be more dangerous because all of a sudden you ran out of go at inappropriate times. There was also a piece on BBC news this morning at about 6.45. A rep of MAG was on and aquitted himself very well. He put across his points very well and remained calm and unflustered. A great advert for MAG

Yet again MCN is putting the cat amungst the pidgeons, I don't think it will ever happen, mainly because as were forever being told that bikes only makeup 1% of the motoring public. if it did i'm sure there will be a way to defeat the system, like disconnecting the speedo cable or wrapping the gps ariel in tin foil.

The worst crashes I've had have been on the slowest bikes (ts50, dt50, rd200, superpooperdream). Well almost - biggest was on me elsie, hitting the side of a car at about 70mph.workmates were impressed cos the 15 ft rubber mark on the tarmac was left with the front... the back tyre was about 6 inches in the air.Speed wasn't a factor, stupidity was. I was lucky and got away with a bruised ankle, but when yer numbers up..... nowt you can do about it.

Speed limiters ROFLMAO..... What next? Stabilisers on GP bikes? ;D Funny ain't it how us bikers get all narked off when some rule is passed that is actually trying to save our necks; First it was the compulsory wearing of helmets, then the 12bhp law for learners, then the theory test, then the 33bhp restrictions for newbies, then the 'gentlemans agreement' of a 186mph limit, and now this....... What's really funny is that I bet bikers all protested and moaned before the above rules were passed...... and what happened?...... the rules were passed anyway Democracy ? Blah *enter sarcasm here* In closing I did once read a report suggesting that all bikes in Europe should be single cylinder automatics limited to 50bhp !! Somehow, the idea of a speed limiter doesn't seem so scary now.

Giving evidence to the committee, transport author Stephen Plowden said he could not see why anyone needed a bike with a top speed of more than 65 mph.
perhaps taken out of context, but have a vehicle capble of using a motorway, but unable to achieve national speed limits = how dangerous is that !

Alright how do you lot set your suspension up then ? All this talk of hyper - speed. I know if I hit a speed limiter at 20 mph it makes my a**e feel like Deerfoods been lodging the night! So how the hell do you lot manage to ride over them at warp speed? Or have I lost the thread somewhere trev
