Hi, I'm Rad, here because I have just bought my first XJ900 Diversion. As this my first big bike, and wanting a shaft drive, I was initially after a Deauville, but good bikes are expensive, and the rest are sheds.
Anyway, I came across my Divi by accident on Gumtree and as it was only £900 I thought I would take a look. Generally, the bike is in fine fettle. There is a small amount of rusting on the frame and the rear caliper needs replacing. The big thing is the roughness from the diff area (so much for wanting shaft drive) which is warm after a ride. I am hoping it is the rear wheel bearings, but I don't tend to be that lucky.
On the plus side I know a chap in the transmission business who owes me a favour. So the diff comes off this weekend if I can find a suitable workshop stand before then.
Have already fallen for its charms and am so glad I didn't find a Honda in the end.
BTW I live in the North East

BTW I live in the North East You were lucky to not get a deuville, they are awful, underpowered and heavy, and the 700's are difficult to work on, The diff should be warm after a ride, they are very reliable, and if faulty it's cheaper to replace with used, wheel bearings seldom go either, but it can be those, swing arm bearings can be rough, as can the universal joint if water gets in to the swing arm, You can remove the rear using the centre stand, it's not to technical either.

Unfortunately, Mine has had the centre stand removed.

Centre stand is one of the few weak points on the 900. The stand will have corroded to a point where it will collapse under the bikes weight. You do see them on eBay occasionally. It is very unusual for the rear drive to give up.

Hi all. I,me new to this site. Not sure how I will be accepted on here. The purists out there will want me hung drawn and quartered. Sometime ago I decided I wanted to have a go at building a custom bike with an air cooled engine....4 cylinder, 750 or 600. A yam diversion 600 engine was up for sale cheapish on ebay which I bought a couple of years ago. I,ve built and fabricated my own hardtail frame, and all the mounting brackets to support the engine. In brief,I reckon I,me about half way through the build. Will post some photos later on here. Cheers

Btw, we have an infamous fabricator* of our own on here, a resident of Wantage I believe. * well he makes things up as he goes along.

Hi my first post, I have just swapped a GPz 550 H2 and a Puch Maxi (both with issues) for a 600S Diversion with 17K miles. I am chuffed with it so far. Is there an online version of the manual available. I need to reduce the tickover a bit as it runs fast once hot. My other bike is a Gen2 FZ1S.

The adjuster is easy to find, if you kneel down and look under the tank, you will see a thumb wheel, in the centre of the carbs, that's the adjuster!

OK thanks I did have a quick look but will have a closer inspection. Mine is an early one with one disk, it works but feels a bit wooden, I will strip and clean. My initial impression of the bike is that it reminds me of a CB 500 4 I had once. I like it and think it will be good to live with. I live in London and have to worry if I park my main bike up in bike bays for any length of time. I know they will nick anything but I worry less with this one, it was the same with the GPZ, neither are a high value item for spares.

Hi my partner bought me a Yamaha Diversion 600S for my birthday to practice my gears on and get ready to take my Mod 1 and 2 this summer before my CBT runs out (currently ride a Honda PCX), I've already taken a tumble off his bike and broke/damaged a couple of bits on his as well as 2 ribs....Oops so when she came up cheap through a friend we grabbed her. She came with crash bars, handle bar ends and heated grips she's not in too bad condition but needs a bit of TLC as she's over 20 years old, so started doing bits and pieces to her. Going to giver a respray in purple at some point as I plan on keeping her when I've passed my test. Thought I'd pop on and say hi as I'm sure I'll be lurking and asking things to help me along the way

Hi, I'm Bruce and live in Northamptonshire. Bought a 1997 600 divvy a couple of weeks ago, purely as a second bike that I don't have to worry about going out in the rain! I have a very basic mechanical knowledge, by that I mean I can do an oil and filter change, and I am hoping to learn a bit more on this bike! My other ride is a Sportster 883 custom.
