Don't worry about it Linda. Ignore Bev. He's a bloke with a girls name, a bit of a perv and very shallow! We're not all the same
Yep, that pretty much sums me up.

Put your photo at an online website (like Flickr or Photobucket). Then to post it here, all you need is the online web address. Here's an example using my photo ... [ img]http://www.siteguru.co.uk/images/I_Am_SiteGuru.jpg[/img] .^. Note - remove that space between the [ and img] and you get ...

Hi Linda, Not near Bradford, but thought I'd say hello, as another girl in YDC. I think the lads are more harmless than they first appear...but don't hold me to that Jules

I'm aware that the bikes can be lowered and the seat shaved,so my options are not quite as limited as i initially thought......roll on next year....yippeeeeeeeeeee ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Regarding bikes for the vertically-challenged - Doofer (site admin/rottweiler) can give you lots of good advice in this respect.

I'm aware that the bikes can be lowered and the seat shaved,so my options are not quite as limited as i initially thought......roll on next year....yippeeeeeeeeeee ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Hi, sadly for you I'm not a good source of bike inspiration, as I'm quite tall for a girl (between 5'8" and 5'9") - as someone else said, Doofer is a better source of info for the vertically challenged - she has a D6 and a SV400 currently - the D6 has been modified to fit her, but I'm sure she'll be along to advise. You might want a look at the SV650 as well (I investigated when I was looking relatively recently, although I think Doofer said they were a bit too tall for her). I used to have a D6, and now have a very pretty VFR800 ;D I wouldn't want a heavier bike than these, and that was part of my shopping criteria. Weight is published on the web and is pretty easily accessible - but be warned that two bikes of identical weight don't always feel the same (the D6 was more top heavy than the VFR for example, so actually felt heavier in some ways). Might be worth venturing into the main forum (General Board) and posting a new thread there asking for advice - everyone here was really helpful when I was looking for tips. Jules

Welcome to all the newcomers,
Linda (WomanMinusBike),
I'm 5'2" and struggle to find a bike that really fits, I've dropped very lucky with an SV400 recently as I've been finding the divvy too tall and heavy for me.
Post something in General asking what people suggest, but the best I can advise is look at whats available and go and sit on the bikes, take em for a test ride if you can and make it a good long test ride.
I wanted a bike that didn't need to be modified for a shorter person, but I suspect my 400 has already been lowered, it handles well, so I'm not complaining, the 650 I believe is easy to lower too.

I thought the SV400 was the physical same size as the SV650.

I thought the SV400 was the physical same size as the SV650. I'm still trying to establish which parts are the same as the 650 and which aren't, I suspect the frame, wheels & suspension are, the electrics have no light switches, but thats pretty common anyway, but the final drive chain & sprockets are different from the 650, they are 520pitch and the engine is not a sleeved down version, it can be and is commonly bored out to 500cc for racing, but no bigger, has a shorter stroke and a higher rev limit. It's easy enough to lower by fitting longer dogbones on the rear shock and I believe many dealers were prepared to do this with new bikes at the first owners request. Doof

Thanks Jules and Doofeer for your advice.....i'll post something up soon.
Regarding trying a model out....i ask to sit on strangers bikes to "see if my leg will go over"all the time !!!. I approached a chap in Asda's car park recently....he let me have a try, it was an ER6, quite light and if it was lowered, would have been perfect.
Having been into the shops i am met with a little condecension to say the least.....but that may have something to do with the fact i had been walking round for about 10 minutes just stroking the seats !!!
I also have a slight problem with carple tunnel....so not sure if i could sit leaning forward for an extended time on my wrists.
What with the height, the bad back and carpel tunnel......Is there any hope !!!
I'm sure i will find something as i'm determined to ride again, just nothing like it and anyway i've promised my son i'm taking him pillion next year......just can't let the lad down, can i?
Linda.

Predicatable comment mode on - I'm training to be a chiropractor quite often back an neck problems are misdiagnosed as carpel tunnel problems. A chiropractor can almost certainly help. - Predicatable comment mode off. Bikes with a long strech to the bars cause me shoulder arm an upper leg ache. All caused by a stiff back. I'm happier on the sit up style bikes like the pretend offroaders and semi tourers like the Diversion. I can only get my toes down on my Divvie 900 but soon got used to it. D

Thanks chirodave.....but the bad back stems from lifting patients when i was nursing and the carpel tunnel came on big time whilst i was doing some major D.I.Y a couple of years ago.
Even when i'm driving my fingers go numb and turning the throttle on an old thing i hired whilst abroad did the same.
No problems though......just to ride again is the main issue here, not my aches and pains.
But should i need a chiropractor, i will know where to come.....thanks.

Bev, You need to use words such as... Tall, Dark, Handsome, GSOH, thoughtful, caring, friendly, entertaining, loyal, trustworthy, honest, adventurous, intelligent.... then if all else fails just say you're gagging for a bit ;D
