60 odd miles on the motorway, why on earth you would want to go there is the question?
There are some great roads into wales and through wales but none include cardiff, the local brew is known as 'feeling foul' and the centre is the same shops that make up every other city these days. Plenty to recommend Wales very little of it is in Cardiff.

Roger, While Cardiff is a lovely city with lots to see there is only one way to get their and that's via the motorway. Could I suggest taking in the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley which will take you by Tintern Abbey and down to Chepstow. So much more in the roads and scenery.

interesting comparisons guys, thanks... wouldn't do the motorway anyway..and obviously not looking to stay there, but never been there and as seems quite close, IF NOTHING ELSE better, may consider a saturday bimble over, can at least say I've been.. alternative possibility if a saturday run is not forthcoming, and as soogy has been busy, we could entertain ourselves!

There should be a saturday run if there is interest. I would agree the wye valley is a far better bet as are pretty much any road between gloucester and cirencester. I will never be able to bring myself to love Cardiff in the way I do london or Edinburgh though.

I passed my driving test in Cardiff 35 or so years ago. ( I know, I don't look old enough ) I can't think of any good reason to go there other than to watch Rugby.

The Wheatstone is pretty close (assuming people are staying at the Premier Inn by Sainsburys), easy walking distance. It was OK last time I was there but that was a couple of years ago so can't vouch for it now. I haven't been to any of the other pubs round there I'm afraid. www.chefandbrewer.com/pub/wheatstone-inn-barnwood-gloucester/s5903/ Mind you I've just noticed they shut at 10pm. thats food stops at 10... pub till 11... plenty late enough with such an early start how far is cardiff away?? never been there, and if closeby, and nothing else better might take a gander according to G-maps its about 60miles away to the city centre take the A48 down to chepstow much more scenic than motorways and you wont have to pay any tolls

Just booked a twin room at Premier Inn, Barnwood - so looks like I'm definitely coming now ! (Wanna share Dave - seeing as it'll only cost ya £30 ?)
Barring unforseen circumstances I'll be at the White Hart GL2 8HY by 17:30 for Saturday bimble and tea
