so the D9 is a M14 and once it's stripped you simple tap it out to M15 and fit the new plug! sounds like a great solution!

Glad it worked Max, saved a lot of hassle. You forgot to provide a link for a mattress though, another bit of kit essential for this repair by all accounts (would be even better if it came with a Chele already attached ) ;D

Bought one of these and entrusted it to local bike shop. Didnt work bike gone 4 days and ended up tapping out even bigger and using longer bolt. This failed and cracked tge sump at next oil change as not enough metal left. I have just bought 2nd hand sump ebay and awaiting gadket so i can change it. Bike off rd 4 weeks now. My advice:- 1. Don't overtighten sump plug!! 2. If like me you did avoid this tap and buy a 2nd hand sump. Not a bad job to change it. 3. Don't begin until you've got a gasket that may have to come from Japan!

If it had to come from Japan, I would rather make one out of gasket paper, If you use a dowty washer, then you don't need as much force to stop it leaking.

Nearly did. Just changed suppliers and now should be here at the weekend. Using tinklers motorcycles.

How clumsy do you have to be to strip the sump threads anyway? Finger tight plus a tweak is sufficient.
