Normandy 2012 Easter Weekend Friday 6th – Monday 9th April 2012 Following discussions on the forum and at JR11 I am pleased to announce that we will be returning to Normandy in 2012. Once again the excursion will take place over the Easter weekend (Friday 6th April - Monday 9th April). AccommodationAs they have looked after us so well in the past our base will again be in Arromanche at the Normandy Beach B&B. Contact Adrian Cox at www.normandybeach.co.uk phone number is 0033 231 215 263. Please mention you are with the Yamaha Diversion Club. If he is full Chez Mounie is next door or Arroplace is just around the corner: www.mounie.arromanches.net www.arroplace.comOther accommodation can be found at www.arromanches.comFor those planning to camp there is a campsite about 500m from the B&B. Contact www.arromanches.com/uk/camping_services.htmThe plan is to have both breakfast and evening meals at the Normandy Beach B&B. This should help to keep the cost of the trip down but is of course optional. The cost per head is €60 per person per night based on a couple in each of the 4 normal rooms and 3 in the family rooms. For this you get a proper full English breakfast, a two course evening meal (BBQ on 1 night) and ample (within reason ) wine and beer to wash it down. Members who have attended in previous years will testify that no-one goes hungry or thirsty when Adrian & Karen are in charge of supplies . Those who are staying at other hotels or camping are welcome to join us at a cost of €9 breakfast and €18 evening meal. FerriesThere are many varied options for crossing the channel so I shall refrain from listing them all. I have listed these 2 as the most convienient for our weekend and cheapest options respectively. Costs are based on 1 person & 1 Motorbike. Debs & I have booked the Brittany Ferries Fastcat to/from Cherbourg and the Premier Inn Port Solent for the Thursday night but all runsters are free to choose as they wish. Brittany Ferries: Portsmouth-Cherbourg. Out> 0900 6th April 2012. Return> 1700 9th April 2012 Fastcat both ways making crossing time 3hrs. Cost £118 LD Lines: Portsmouth-Le Havre. Out> 2300 5th April 2012. Return> 1700 9th April 2012 An overnight crossing which we used on the first Normandy run in 2007. Slower return crossing of 5 hrs. Cost £53 I am well aware that this is still a long way away but Easter is a busy time and hotel rooms do fill up quickly so I would advise getting your booking in early. Although I will be glad to offer advice, responsibility for making travel and accommodation arrangements lies with the individual Debs & I look forward to seeing you there Sign Up sheet here: Click MeFor those new to riding in France Please note the following Do’s, Don’ts and Must havesWhilst riding in France you must have with you by law: Passport V5 Licence (both parts if applicable) Insurance certificate MOT certificate Set of spare bulbs Hi viz vest (to wear in case of breakdown. Not compulsory when riding) It helps if you also have photocopies of all documents so if stopped you do not have to return to the station to collect them later. Accident Report Form (downloadable from internet) It is also highly recommended to have: EHIC www.ehic.orgTravel Insurance (check that motorcycling is included) Breakdown Insurance Spare bike keys (Not under seat!!) It is up to each rider to check the condition of their bike and to ensure tyres, brakes & fluids are sufficient for the weekend.

Mac, Add to your must have list an 'Accident Report Form', a bilingual copy of which can be downloaded from the web. If you have a bump and do not fill one of these in then even if the other party is guilty you will lose your claim. You fill in one part of the form, the other party fills in the other part, the forms do come will full explanations but you must make sure you always carry one of these. Nice to see you had such a good time in Scotland. Ian.

Hope to make this one (on a bike, from much further north than Brummie land ) but with the work situation being far from certain, I will have to leave the decision until nearer the time. Don't want to book accommodation at this stage so will just have to take my chances. I don't think the 2010 arrangements for room sharing would go down too well with Beebs's "+1" ;D.

It's getting closer to the date of the off so it is about time we started looking at the important details...... The Tour T-Shirts Whilst all the others are walking round in Olympic and Jubilee garb you could be the envy of all your friends in a YDC Normandy 2012 T-Shirt. Place your order for what will be 2012's must have apparel. Pulling power is guaranteed to go up to 11! Cost of these sought after items will be a paltry £15 each. Any profits beyond the cost of the shirts will be donated to charity. Place your orders by PMing me with the quantity and size you require. It would help if a chest size is quoted rather than XL or 2 XL as suppliers use differing guidelines. PS: Ladies: If you don't know your size then I have a tape and will happily pop round to confirm your dimensions . Gents: If you don't know your size then ask your Missis. She will know having brought all your other clothes ;D.

The French weather forecast for next weekend is 'changeable' and around 12°C for the North of the country. I'd like to join you but I'm working Friday and the rest of the holiday weekend is taken up elsewhere for me. Have a great time, all of you!

All the best to all our Normandy easter weekenders, wish I was going but unfortunately sacrifices have to be made in order to avoid knocking your pan in for little financial reward ;D. Anyway; if the sun shines you know who to thank .
