I'm quite happy to come out to say "hello" Thursday evening, I'm only 5 minutes away. We can fine tune the meet-up for the next day perhaps? My comment was more about having to work during the day and not get out to play like you guys. Only the ride-outs are planned for the afternoons letting you do your own thing in the mornings and evenings, exploring on your own, buying chocolate easter bunnies, eating etc. There are no Hot Cross Buns here, BTW. Good Friday is not a day off here, BTW. Expect normal levels of traffic. (It is school holidays of course though.) Pilgrim.

Fuel Prices. Just to update you on the current price of SP95 (prompt from Beast on the General Board ). Supermarket price is between 1.45 and 1.50 Euros per litre. If you are paying 80p for 1 Euro that's £1.16 to £1.20 per litre, 90p for 1 Euro gives £1.30 to £1.35 per litre. Just a guide as different sources will give better or worse rates and Business rate is usually better than tourist rates. The major factor here is the poor performance of the Euro against the dollar coupled with the present concerns in the Oil industry etc. Motorway pumps and private garages are charging 10 to 15 cents more per litre.

After a typical French breakfast of bacon, eggs, toast, mushrooms and tomatoes ( ) I got kitted out late morning with Mrs P and set out on the 'Myths and Legends' run down. Optimism is a good thing but the initial route was far too long! I've cut out the link to Lord of the Rings (Rohan) as it's too far and there's a lot more interest in the forest routes where King Arthur and Merlin can be found...............so they say...........!?!? So one run has been rehearsed and the objective is to target Josselin as the feature stop. It's a medieval town with an impressive castle and timber framed buildings. We'll be covering roughly 100 miles in about 4 hours, stops included. Weather today was wet to start with and the small country roads often smothered in manure. The farmers obviously don't know where the fields are! I got to clean my bike in the fine afternoon sunshine............ Isn't that the way? Easter will soon be here! Pilgrim.

Charlie, Well I can confirm we will be coming but not on the VFR as I sold it today and treated myself to a BMW R1200RT. Really looking forward to Brittany especially on the new toy. Roll on easter Ian

And the BMW 1200RT will do twice as many miles to a tankfull than the D600. I'll have to refill on the way down, cant make La Gacilly on a tank......lol

Got my insurance & health card sorted & was close to buying recovery & a passage (checking last week, there were no cabins left ), got leave booked, all looking well. Glad I didn't spend out on the ferry though - yesterday work 'asked' me to cancel my booked leave to spend a few relaxing days oop North (Durham way) instead. Refusal, it seemed, would appear rude. I was really expecting to make this, even though they starve Veggies in France you know . I trust you will be blessed with fine weather & good roads - just don't come back telling me it was so .

Can we tempt you with .... local pork sausages, chicken (tandoori option), piemontaise salad, hot camembert, and surprise dessert? lots of options anyway. ;D I'm just as keen as you are to get to easter weekend. Btrian, The menu sounds great, can't say I have ever tried hot camembert but there's a first time for everything. Try not to use up all the sunshine before we get there. Ian

Pilgrim,
Your menu will suit us fine. Have serviced and checked over the D9 and all seems OK but have booked an MOT for Saturday (not actually due until the end of the month) as a double check. Looking forward to those lovely quiet French roads and the chance to drool over Ian's RT.

the RT will be a nice sight I'm sure as is Brians menu. New matching rear tyre, service and a 12v power outlet fitted to the D600 this weekend, so looking ready for the off.

Not long to go now! Just to remind you to check your documents before coming over. I'm not sure if I made it clear about money over here. Banks won't change Sterling to Euros over the counter. Bring enough Euros with you or use your Bank cards to withdraw Euros once over here. Weather has been very warm here for the past week, 25+ °C but cooling down now . I look forward to our first 'Brittany' meet!!!! Pilgrim.

For those travelling...check out the CaxtonFx cards. Preload with Euro's at their very reasonable conversion rates and then withdraw as you need from a cash machine as you do your pounds over here. No charges, no having to find an Exchange de Change....simples. If you run out, send a text to upload more.... Better than Travellers Cheques etc.

Thanks DahDit. I'm not up to speed with your methods and what's available in the UK. Needless to say it's better to have gone over to Euros a decade ago! (That's why banks don't do 'Bureau d'Echange' any more. You can get other currencies from La Poste but you have to order it in advance. ) ;D

Brian, As the one with the local knowledge what choice of restaurants / places to eat will we have to choose from. Looking at various mapping sites it would seem that La Gacilly is a fair size, are there places definately worth eating at and places to avoid at all costs. Ian

First of all let me tell you where to find Europ Hotel. At the centre of La Gacilly is a large treed square opposite an imposing Neo-classical Church. The square has a covered market and Brasserie in the middle.. It"s a green glazed building with a lead clad roof. Turn right down the road with 'Pharmacie Gacilienne' on the corner. You'll pass 'La Poste' and then the Hotel on your left. There are a number of eating places and being Easter weekend all should be open lunchtimes and evenings. The only 'fast food' establishment is a very good Kebab shop in the same road. The restaurants range from creperies to à La Carte joints. I can recommend Le Mouchoir de Poche Creperie and the Yucca Pizza Restaurant in the cobbled streets past Credit Agricole Bank. The bigger restaurants are understandably more expensive. I can tell you more when you're here. I am not working on 21st April (Thursday) afterall. Doctor's Orders! Roll on next week!

J-7 That's seven days to go! I've been looking at the weather prospects for next weekend and the temperature starts to increase after this weekend. 21-22°C from Monday. Just keep it there I say. I'll post daily progression as we go into the week. From Sunday they put out 5 day forecasts. Cuckoos, Woodpeckers and Hoopoes are resident at the moment, their calls/hammering only cut out by the long distance bikes humming it up between La Gacilly and Redon. ;D ;D ;D Come on YDC!

CD, most bikes have a 'striaght' beam, so deflectors not necessary on the divvi, Perhaps some twin headlights types might though !

(Actually, all of my bikes, even the old CX500, have had 'slanted' beams, UK-only-Euro-Hating-style . )

D9 I purchased on here from some 'iffy' geezer had a Euro spec light fitted, beam to right, and it would have been an MOT fail bar some sticky black tape. Iffy - southern sort
