Seemingly Folk now seem to be latching onto Divvy 900s and asking pretty high prices, for original ones in tip top order, however as usual the ethos of a labour of love is you tend to stop counting the spends after a while. That said I admire your fortitude and as well as providing interesting posts you are helping another old bike be born again. This is a good point, the main reason i wanted to swap front ends was because of how pitted the forks are, the fact i need discs & pads & a caliper refresh, however like i said i dont think its in the working area. Could anyone measure how far up your seals go? Or i'll just wait until my boss is here with his & i'll just stick a tie wrap around one. I think at the end of the day it is going to just go back to how it came from Yamaha, but better.

I'm probably a tad heavier than you but under heavy braking the front dives a fair bit. If being fairly enthusiastic it takes up at around 4-5" of the possible travel. I would think less than that you should be OK

Before I had the spacers fitted my D9 would often bottom out at the front end so I guess it used pretty much all of the available fork travel on a regular basis.

Jan 25, 2017 9:02:01 GMT 1 Doom said: You can fit a spacer at the top of the spring to increase the preload. I had it done to mine and it had the desired effect but I didn't do it myself so I am a bit light on details. Of course, the oil was changed at the same time. You must mean this.

Correct. It made a great difference to the general handling of the bike.

Wrapped a tie wrap around my managers bike on Wednesday, so he commuted for 2 days on it & sent me this. Measures around 10cm up the fork, 10cm up mine there is some pitting obviously mine are off & have no weight on also, so maybe i should measure 11cm up? I'll measure it & take photos tomorrow, see what you all think.

As you can see, tiny little itty bit of pitting, just around the 10CM mark. Other fork is okay, a good 10mm before i'd get to any of the pitting. Not sure what to do.

Hi Craig. If you after a cheap fix - one way is to rub the pitted area down with wet n dry, then fill the tiny craters with Araldite then rub down again to remove excess then fit a set of fork gaitors. This is assuming the fork seals are ok. If I was doing it I would strip the forks, do the above, and fit new seals and re build with fresh oil etc. Looking at the big picture - I wouldn't have thought the forks are much of a priority. Depending how much money is on the bet you have with your boss - had you thought of looking for a complete bike on Ebay, then just swap the number plate to win the bet - be a hell of a lot cheaper!

That's not a bad idea! Lol but it's not that kind of bet, more of a I'll bet you a pint!
The araldite is a good idea, fork seals need doing anyway so oil change is part & parcel of it.
Wonder if I can get some araldite at work..

So, after realising how much it would cost to get shiney braided oil lines to the cooler. i decided that is a waste of money. I saw on here i think that a hose clamp will fix it, how do i get the metal crimp off? or do i just stick the clamp over that? LOL
Only 1 spacer/washer came out with the stand, i noticed it wasn't very sturdy & perhaps this didn't help the crack! Before's After What are these for? Are the just like a cap to stop sh*t going in the frame? Guess the weight of the frame? With spar fitted. As you might guess, the frame is now bare & ready for painting, just need the funds & that's likely to be august i think. That's why i started to clean the forks & exhaust, just boredem.. I'am going to go over them again i read someone used Harpic power plus bleach so for 99p ill give that a go.

Hi Craig welcome, A divvy for free nice one,I got a 600 that's on the road but always keeps me busy tinkering with it,are you looking for original cans or would aftermarket system suit? I have a Blackwidow 4/1 full system on mine, not too expensive too :-)

Lol Ended up with some 'pre-diversion' cans, they fit over the collector but are interfering with other things. I'm sure i can sort it, i hope. or i'll be looking for anything again! Be a long time though until then!

Hi Craig. I think those allen bolts blanking frame tube are part of the wingrack fixing. I think I am right in thinking originally there are foam or sponge bungs in there. OK mate - seems to be keeping you busy if nowt else.

What are these for? Are the just like a cap to stop sh*t going in the frame? They are part of the fixings for a Givi Wingrack. Because of where they are, they tend to get left behind whenever a rack is removed - & so are often missing when second-hand fitting kits are advertised for sale.

Good to know, Cheers! Any advice on how to get the metal crimp off the oil cooler feed?

Best thing to do with the oil cooler pipe is to hacksaw the crimped part off each end of the pipe and you'll need to source a new piece of hose to replace it. The metal tube looks like it has broken off so your pipe would not reach the cooler without extending the hose section. Have fun

Clean the shock rocker & checked the bearings.. it needs them.
Got Some carbs off a lad on the diversion facebook group. The hose for fuel is a little broken but im not bothered. They're pretty clean compared to what i had, all free & moving came off a running bike.
£81.94 +£7.50 Araldite +£72.80 Carbs
£162.24 Total so far.

feck PHOTOBUCKET. They changed their terms of service & now that's happened, off to imgur. Yep, I've been watching & waiting - we have 10 years of pics on here, all will go in time (save for anyone who has a Photobucket paid ($399 a year, lump sum payment) subscription.) ..... I was half-expecting Photobucket to cave in, given the bad press their action has received .

Quick update. Dismantled the forks ready for new seals, oil, araldite & a good clean all over. The first I did was fine, second the inner damper was spinning with the bottom bolt. Impact gun sorted that!

Thinking about what colour to get the frame done.. black, silver? Green again? Yellow, Cadbury purple, gold, grey. Black is cheaper obviously, fairings need a good tidy up too so if I changed colours of them it wouldn't be the end of the world. Colours

Personally I like silver fairings on a black frame, but then I'm biased.

Nice to hear that. With the lull in activity, thought you had lost interest. How's the engine / carb situation?
|
|
|
Post by craigfell on Sept 6, 2017 7:23:42 GMT
Engine has good compression & I did stick a little oil down the barrels when I drained it..
Carbs I got from a guy on the Facebook group 👍 only things I'm missing really are the shock & working coils.
Gonna get the swing arm & fork bottoms powder coated when I pick the other bits up.. I'll paint the diff myself with hammerite to save spending on bearings.
