Swapped my black D9's rear shock linkage this evening, to sort the 'play' there .......... only to realise it's the swing-arm bearings that are shot instead .

Good find.
How many D9's have you owned ? . In my defense, I thought I'd previously done the swingarm bearings on this one, about 6000 miles ago, so didn't suspect them. I was confused - it was one of the others .

.. I hope it's not my member you've deleted. Not seen it for a while ? No, I delete the persistent sorts who join up to get us to click their various links. Seems American & Canadian 'realty' sites are flavour of the month just now.

You sure? I seem to recall it was the black one you couldn't determine where the *freeplay* was. Yes, I'm sure - that issue was this bike only recently (I re-greased the linkages & couldn't perceive any play. I thought I'd previously (when I owned this bike in 2011) done the swing-arm bearings). I was wrong - it was the green one .

*Reposted as i accidentally posted this in the 600 section* Today (this past week) I have bought my first Divvy! its a big ol' machine isn't it!? my first bike beyond my first 600 and i love it already. so, i did to it -Picked off some of the bigger chunks of the atrocious paint job (stock green, red, black, black then black again is the order of layers) -Knocked it over taking it home in the van driving by the Avon Gorge, snapped off the ludicrously enormous smoke screen that was pop rivited on & would have stopped it getting back out of the van, snapped the metal aftermarket indicator off the left side, chipped even more paint off and dented the tank, also had a good laugh about it -Rode it round the block a bunch of times with a big dumb grin on my face -Started looking around on the internet for all the bits and pieces I need to get it running like it shoukd (and pass its mot *fingers crossed*) and ordered the haynes manual for it -Stared at it a lot -Wrote a list of jobs to do -Talked about it endlessy to anyone who's listen Also started gutting out the garage (took the whole day with the help of two others) to get the enormous mass of the Divvy in behind my dad's equally massive spyder. Still got a long way to go on the garage project but we're getting there after two days. Once thats done the messy, greasy, oily work can begin and i've never been more excited about a bike in my life... I've only ridden it two miles! (i think, speedo needs tweeked) onwards an upwards Since then i've continued to stare at it and tell everyone about it and had another two full days gutting out the garage. pretty much there now and ready to start work!

got round to fitting the blue spots ive had in the garage for ages ,all cleaned up and new seals fitted to bike with the fazer 600 master cylinder and braided lines (which were on the old calipers).
still a pig to bleed with the big syringe and tube but got there i think. the brakes work fine but the lever isnt as solid as i thought it would be but miles better than the original calipers tbh .
should the lever be slightly spongy with my set up or is there still some air in there do you think ? ive cracked all the joints as well as the bleed nipples whilst pulling slowly on the lever and obviously re tightened the said nipples and joints before letting go but its still not what i thought it would be but im comparing it to the brembo set up on my aprilia rsv which is astounding tbh .
when the adjustable span lever is on number 4 i can just about get the lever to touch the grip. hows yours ??
cheers ..

Tie the lever back overnight, The lever is less solid, enough to notice, but is much more usable for it, it will take time to get all the air out.

It sailed through another MOT today.
Noted the clutch is a little stiff so I ordered a new cable as thats the cheapest first step.
Will get that done next weekend.

mostly what i've been doing is still locating parts, mostly service stuff but also pads and discs, trying to get the best price The work i've done so far is removing the old buggered pillion footpegs (excuse not to take a passenger, score). I've taken the indicator off to source a bolt for it after snapping the thing off in transit, and also taking off the centre stand to have a look at it... and its not good linkIt's rusted right the way through the middle bar and as it turns out, its not just twisted in the middle but one of the legs is bent slightly, i'm assuming its the leg with the footpeg on it as its the one under strain to lift the bike. i also think that its been straightened slightly as opposed to bent over further with the way the bike is levered over it, i could be wrong though, i really could do with a stand to compare it to! Unfortunately with there being so much of a rattle inside it with flakes of rust i think the pipe its made from is rusting from the inside out and is too thin to bear the weight of the bike without serious strengthening. It may just be easier at this point to make a new one, but again, i'd need a solid and square stand to get the dimensions from. thinking of making it from some beefy square pipe as cutting to shape and welding that would be easier than bending round pipe. also considering making it out of solid bar but it would weigh an absolute ton, would never rust through though especially if i use stainless... so many possibilities! if anyone has got a stand i could use for a bit to measure i would appreciate that a lot!

I ordered a set of stainless downpipes from the ebay along with replacement stainless clamps for the collector box, arrived today and the quality looks pretty good, was going to replace the collets/flanges that hold them on but can't find them on the ebay and fowler's wand a whopping 14 quid (plus the dread plus delivery) so just gonna give them a going over with rust remover and a wire brush I think... I also started getting together various bits of metal and shaping them to repair my front mudguard which is currently in two rather neat pieces, gonna clean the muck off the inside and then use much glue and general bodgery on the inside and it should be as good as new, also here is a pic of the bagster fitted along with the rack ready for summer which i posted in the other 'what did you do today' thread as it should be in the 900 specific one... I think the weather now dictates that i swap the tall screen for the original one so that i can ride with the visor up without getting air turbocharged directly into my face as it flows off the top of the winter screen... Oh, I also fitted the proper master cylinder the other day, and that is nicely up and running so i now have a brake light at my finger tips, and it is much more comfortable to use now that i can adjust it to give a little leeway/free play before the brakes start working, i filed down the pin a little on the other one, but they were still too immediate for my personal taste....

Today on my bike i put on the set of engine bars that came with it, they're a bit scratched up but i like them Yesterday i changed the oil and flushed it once too, changed the filter, changed the air filter, changed the spark plugs and changed the final drive oil oh! i gave it a clean through with some wd40 as well before filling it back up again I've adjusted the idle speed a little as well and my conclusion is I think is does needs the carbs looked at/ cleaned/ balanced as it smells a bit fuel rich and isnt idling as smooth as i'd like. the fuel gauge as well seems to have a complete mind of its own, showing full on second and beyond empty the next... its got about 5 litres in the tank! ... maybe it'll take it beong full to get it to sort its sh*t out. Next thing is to get into the brakes and to check and repair the speedo, it seems to have decided to start working again but the needle bounces. Just now need to figure out how to jack up the front! i also want to change all the little hose clips and pins since every one i've come across so far is bent way out of shape, rusted, non existent or just plain fecked . right, i'm off to go learn how to bleed brakes!
