Well.... I tried That thing's not coming off without a rattle gun or a cutting disc More leverage won't make any difference - we had Jools and Martin on the bike with wood through the spokes to stop the wheel moving, and just ended up lifting the back of the bike up. Looking at the photo, that breaker bar is bending a bit....

You guys sure that's a right hand thread? Might just be left hand which would explain your not being able to move it. Next suggestion is to call a service truck for big lorries that would have a 3/4 inch impact. That should get it off and he could come to you.

Definitely a right hand thread.Like you say, it needs a rattle gun on it and if that doesn't shift it , it'll need to be cut off

Thanks for having a go though .

......Thought about cutting it off ? Many a time. But wanted to avoid damage. But enough is enough, angle grinder came out, nut came off: Some 'light' damage to underlying thread, which I might be able to chase clean enough to reuse. Now that's off I can work on the seized brake /chain adjuster thingummy, RHS of bike is the plate onto which the brake caliper mounts is seized onto the drum with the chain adjuster (LHS of bike). Actual wheel bearings look & feel fine, so I'm going to avoid too much heat) I've already spent half an hour 'teasing' it. Think I'm going to have to get quite aggressive .

Got some bird draped over the bike & some big fella pulling on my breaker bar, damned bolt wouldn't shift though: Open to suggestions for next thing to try. Angle grinder ?? Is it just me or is this pic the epitome of southern reasoning ? Shirley it would make more sense to apply the leverage in a downward manner, using the weight of the bike (and all personna aboard it : , and having the added advantage that all GM's not inconsiderable bulk , could be put to best use? Not to mention the fact that pulling on the bar in that manner he is likely to be a candidate for a hernia. Oh....... and I'm back

Explaining the logic behind the activity is probably like trying to explain the relationship between new bike warranties & dealer /non dealer servicing to you & Clive . But I'll try anyway .... With persons upon the vehicle, their thighs/legs get in the way of the weilder of the big socket when attempted in the manner you describe. Working the way we did, the bar could be kept in line with the turning action in order to ensure that the socket did not slip off the nut. Oh....... and I'm back ... & yet you aren't here, helping me to drift out the seized thingummyjig . ...... ordered new nut & enormous circlip this morning, air filter & replacement DZUS fasteners . (Found that those Honda fairing fasteners are £3.50 each (plus VAT & postage !) so went for some Ducati ones instead )

I can't believe you've wrecked that nut and probably the thread, all for the sake of getting a rattle gun from somewhere. Bad choice.

Soooo....what your saying, albeit in a roundabout manner is, JJ had to lay on the bike cos she was in the way when sat on it, thought the wielder of the big socket would have worked out the best way to approach her with a big tool after all this time

Got the seized bits apart: This (brake mount) part on the left was seized onto the hub & had to be roundly 'teased' off the RHS of the hub so the hub could be withdrawn from the LHS of the swingarm. Here you can see the 'mullering' the chain adjuster has been subject to. Looks like the chap has resorted to trying to hammer the adjuster tool in order to try to retension the chain - the lugs for the tool have been nicely knackered : I'll clean up both with wet 'n dry & solvol & redress the knackered lugs with a file. Both salvageable .

should have been leaning on the bike and the 'Bloke' in the Newcastle shirt should have been pulling the shaft. Feeky Chucker! ;D

Chain tensioner lugs re-faced with my trusty file. Rust/corrosion on the two main parts cleaned & they now move independently of on another when assembled. New big spindle nut & circlip arrived today. Spindle threads cleaned up & big nut goes on nicely. Just waiting for Trev to help me refit the big circlip now. I do wish I was big & strong like him .

I think he should get an Oscar for that performance, he actually looks like he knows what he's doing.
If I'd known he was useful I'd have got him to remove the D9 swingarm Pivot pin when he was in Scotland.

Have a word with yourself. ;D As if I would* Seems my tool served it's purpose on the overnighter at the Grove , the VFR seems to be coming along, it can be moved again now at any rate. Credit where it's due to the Wantage collector, considering the state of the VFR on it's re-arrival the boys done good *Ps thread is now bookmarked for future reference

So ok..... How much has he put it up for? PM your offer Jim . ...... New MOT today, no advisories . I popped round to Bobh's gaff on the way back from the MOT place. Drank his coffee & mugged him for a footrest rubber for the D9 [1]. [1] Obviously I prefer it when he's out - I can help myself then .
