hi i own a 02 600n its been covered up in the back yard since the snow and ice cold conditions arrived in the north east.i took out the battery and housed it indoors.ive just re connected it and on full choke it started up 4th time being carefull i reduced the choke and let it tick over for five minutes.i have noticed that the exhaust on the left hand side has a tiny blow hole.the bike is in immaculate condition thanks to previos owner.is it possible for a pin hole in the exhaust to develope in a short space of time?.and could squirting wd 40 down the pipe ends when i layed it up stopped this happening.really the main topic for my thread should have been about how to best keep the 600 over winter in artic condition under plastic canvas.im glad it is not water cooled.ive only had this model for six months so would appreciate any advice on winter protection.keep warm midd

Both silencers should have a pin hole on their undersides. So if your looks at all 'engineered' rather than corroded, it's fine.

thank you ive just been outside and looked at both exhausts indeed they have two engineered pin holes on either side it aint corrosion.to me they look like two purpose made arc strikes from a welding machine.thank you for your detailed information ive just sprayed the bike with wd 40 it cant do any harm in this weather

The holes are probably water drain holes to allow the condensation out. My Honda 900 has them too.

I got some "motorcycle Protectorant" spray from a local motor factors. Its like heavy duty WD40 so protects better and was only £4 a can. WD40 tends to evaporate.
I've also found that chain saw oil mixed 50/50 with white spirit is a fantastic anti corrosion treatment.
Downside is gunk it off every 6 months & re-apply or it tends to gel. Clean off hot parts before running the engine or it will burn onto the metal and be a struggle to get off. But maybe this applies to many of the anti corrosion treatments.
