Clutch Actuater Arm

Fitted a new clutch cable last night and just wanted to check something with you experts.

Is there a pre set or standard rotation against the Clutch Housing which the Arm should point towards?

Looking top down on the crank case, mine sits when just on tension at around 10/11 o'clock. This was the only way that I could get the adjustment right from both ends of the.

The pic below should help.


It seems to sit right when on slack nd has the right pull feel when the lever ir pulled but from other pics Ive seen the arm seems to sit around 12/1 o'clock ?

Is it a worry ?

There is only one position it will work properly at, if you've got that, then you have it right.

Careful, there's some sort of auto adjust trick it does I think, just a few 100 miles after changing my clutch plates my bike did that with zero warning, meaning that I couldn't disengage the clutch. That was an interesting trick, since I was on a slip road heading toward thick traffic at the time.

Can anyone confirm that?

edit: must learn to read properly. you did the cable, not the plates, so don't worry about the above. though i'd still be interested if anyone else has had that happen.

The included angle between the cable and the arm should be about 75-80 degrees when the cable is slack - that way you get maximum leverage (i.e. roughly a right-angle) when the clutch is disengaged.

If the seal has gone the needle rollers on the vertical rod will likely be knotchy. This might be the cause of the problem Amorti is talking about.
Its also a handy way to get emulsified sump oil.

All sorted now. Out yesterday and clutch is changing sweetly.
