I replaced the thrust bearing some time ago and recently cable. The problem the bike is quite smooth when starting off in first but if I (as in going around sharp bend) slow down, pull in clutch, and let it out again slowly it suddenly bites, with a CLUNK :(sound. I've been riding for 30+ years so I don't think it's me! I now tend to stay in a low gear (try not too stall) and go around the corner that way (as one should). Chain tension is OK although a bit variable. Any ideas welcome.

Bit difficult to see this.......
Are you changing down before entering the bend or in mid-bend when this happens?
You should be selecting your gear for the bend ahead and driving it at the correct/comfortable speed under power to accelerate away as the bend runs out.
(It appears to me you take bends too slowly or prepare too late?)
If the bike functions fine otherwise and you've new parts then no problem. Check the adjustments again to be sure.
Explain more perhaps?

I assume you checked the clutch plates to make sure they have plenty of meat left on them?
And have you by any chance changed to a different grade/type/make of oil recently?

Hi thanks for replies, It only happens in slow traffic in gears 1,2 or 3. If I change up and down when filtering the changing up and down would get ridiculous. The clutch plates are conformant. I changed the oil to fully synthetic (albeit ASDA) thinking this was better than my usual car oil.

I haven't heard of this problem, but some people have had slipping problems using fully synth oil. Perhaps changing back to semi would help

How about the release mechanism. The vertical shaft moved by the clutch cable runs on needle rollers and the top seal fails. Needle rollers don't like ossilating(sp?) through only a few degrees. Good chance its snagging and jamming the clutch open then dropping it suddenly.

mine did that and then I changed the oil with a huge flush out job as well.. its fine now..
I thought there was something wrong.. and there kinda was.. the oil was thick as mud... anyway all seems sorted now.

Keep a watch on it. Needle rollers don't like short back & forth action like the clutch lever does so soon start skidding and wearing.
