Took my Divy 600 for brake pads. When I collected it it was hard to start but garage got it going, Since then it does not want to start. Battery OK at 12V+ I can hear a starter solenoid clicking over and occasionally a grumble that sounds like my stomach after a curry. I know I can complain to the garge but I would like to pretend I know what I'm talking about. Help please John B Wirral

Loose or dirty terminals between battery and starter. Faulty solenoid - short out the heavy terminals on the top. If the starter turns the solenoid is suspect. Motor brushes - Have a look in the end of the starter motor worn brushes stop it working properly. If you need to order new brushes make sure you get a pair. www.electrex.co.uk seem to be good for Diversion electrics ad there's always fleabay.

Get multi meter and check volts and amps.
If there is insuuficent ampage then the starter motor will click but the bike will not turn over. Another way to check this is if you use jump leads or a starter pack. If then it turns over and fires either check the battery is charging/charge the battery or its on the way out.

coincidence. Nothingt hey would have touched with the brake pads would cause these problems.

A weak battery can still turn the engine, but when the system voltage drops too much the electronic ignition stops making sparks.
If it starts with jump leads suspect the battery.
If using a car to jump start it DONT RUN THE ENGINE as this can blow the bike's electrical regulator.

A good battery should be showing between 14 and 15 volts fully charged. Electronic ignition needs a healthy current to fire, if the battery is low, the starter robs most of it. Ray.

With the lights on, the voltage should not be below 12V, but it will show more with no load.
The generator should be making around 14.5 volts. A quick Google will give the exact range it should be. IIRC, a full battery gives about 13.5 volts on no load.
