Are you looking to put on a new one or find one secondhand?

There are topics on here which might help on second-hand possibilities, I can't point you to where as I'm relatively new here.
Generally for new shocks, in ascending order of price:
Betor are the cheapest at around £135. (Not proven in the long term but I've bought one and have no complaints. I also have a '97 XJ600N)
There's a Hagon spring at £245 ish at Wemoto. (Good reputation)
Yamaha's own. Guess the price, I don't know, but that's just failed you anyway.
Others are well beyond the Hagon price tag.
Otherwise keep you eyes peeled on E-Bay for a direct replacement.

Check out the bush which carries the shock bottom mount. The shock has snapped suggesting some bending action is going on at that point - the bush might have siezed up. If that has gone home, there's a good chance other swing arm beairngs are also on the way out or at least need cleaning and greasing.
