with apologies as I know this is a very simple and obvious thing - if you know the answer! Does the oil in the sight glass need to be at the half way mark or above? That's it. simple! thanks Andrea

There are two marks on the outside of the sight glass, min and max. You need it up to max to stop the oil light from coming on as it's a little sensitive. I fill mine to just below the max mark, so I can actually see where the level is

Andrea, Hi, best to keep the sight glass nearer the top, at all times.. helps keep things moving, and if left to drop lower 'can' make the oil light flash occasionally, which doesn't actually mean anything, just puts a panic in the mind set....so keep topped to the higher mark and all will be fine. Best wishes Roger

thank you gentlemen.. one of the nice things about this site is that nobody treats you like an idiot just because you don't know something.

Changed my oil today and filled it up to the top line. I found the engine is more noisy if level is left to fall too far.

Thats likely because it's about to send the lower end of a con rod through the cases

just a quick warning for those who do their first oil change. fill up to the max line, put oil cap on loosely, fire bike up for a few seconds then stop. you will probably see no oil in the glass. leave it for ten mins, top up, run again and stop etc until the oil is up to the max. this makes sure oil is in all those nooks and crannies.
