First post since joining so i hope someone can help me.
I bought a 92 600 Divvy which has been standing for some time, it was started occasionally by previous owner but not regularly enough. Bike has genuine 5600 miles on her and condition is very good for year. All 4 plugs are sparking but i will put new ones in this week for piece of mind. Managed to start the engine but it was running really rough so i stripped the carbs and oooerr it was quite well gummed up, lots of brown varnish in the float bowls. Cleaned the bowls up and used a toothbrush on the rest using carb cleaner. I put it back together and it started alot easier and i thought i was running on 4 occasionally 3 on tick over. Yesterday i started it and i the engine was running on just 2 cylinders. 1 + 4 are ok but when i pull the plug caps off 2 + 3 the running conditions stay the same.
Previous owner says bike was running ok before it was stored.
I think i will be pulling the carbs off again but i would welcome any advice before i start.
This is the first time i have bought a bike that was stored for a few years so i know i will learn alot and if i am being honest i am enjoying it.............at the moment, the 'Beware of low flying spanners' sign isnt hanging on the outside of the garage door........ yet.
Thanks in advance
Martin

Hi Martin,
I believe but could be wrong that the firing order on the 600's is : 1 - 2 - 4 - 3
which means that 1 and 4 share a coil and 2 and 3 share a coil, each coil triggers alternately, so from the sounds of it you might have a coil going down...
I'd first get a set of new plugs, make sure the HT lead caps are in good condition.
the more knowledgeable members will be along soon[1]

If it's possible to trace the wires which serve the 2 / 3 coil check for any shorts or bad connections including in any connector blocks. I think it unlikely that the carbs are the problem, especially after the clean you did, but worth a check again if you find nothing electrical. Good luck!

I ended up pulling the carbs off again and this time taking every jet out and cleaning them as best i could followed by blasting the air line through.
New plugs were also put in and after flattening one battery(mechanical fuel pump)she burst into life. I took her for a short run and the motor responded alot better...not spot on but a marked improvement.
Today i changed the fork oil, engine oil and filter, brake fluids, cut all the paintwork back followed by a polish so all that is left to do is MOT her and ride the damn thing. I will check the valve clearances followed by a carb balance once i have put a few rides in.
Thanks for the advice
