Hi all, I am in need of replacement steering head bearings but find the prices asked by the normal motorcycle parts factors to be well out of order. Does anyone have part numbers from the bearing races of the tapered bearing type so that I can order them froma local bearing specialist?

I got a set of taper rollers for my 900 from Mike Wheeler in Witney (an ex-Yamaha dealer so they know their stuff but don't have to sell you genuine parts). They're made (or at least put in a packet) by Parts Plus (part No SSH901 for the D9), and Wheelers had them in stock at a shade under £30.

I have Pyramid Parts steering head bearings recently fitted to my 900. They are OK, my mechanic mate reckons they will last for some time and are fine but aren't the best you can get.

I don't remember the brand I bought for my 900 but they cost about £35 from my local independent mechanic. They were perhaps not THE best quality, but my D900 had such incredibly tight fitting clearance on the headstock I'm sure any benefit of sooper-dooper bearings would have been lost anyway. They took a while to bed in but now done about 10K without problems.
