First of all.. hi everybody! I have a XJ600S from '97, I'm new to this forum. Usually I'm more active on a Dutch forum but I'm going international for this question . I'm busy with replacing my fork oil seals and the following springs came out of my Diversion. Does anyone know if this is a original spring or a replacement spring? I'm wondering how I can identify this spring. I've ordered some new Wilbers progressive springs but I can cancel this order if I already have a good set of springs.

Hi Joostp, not sure how you could tell if it's original or replacement Spring length should be 476.5mm (18.8 inches) as standard, minimum length 471.5mm (18.6 inches) for the 97 divvy. Measure yours and see how they compare, the springs laid flat obviously. If they're defective or sagged you'll be better replacing them. Try putting 15W fork oil in the forks when you rebuild too. Hth, trev

Hello and welcome to the club. Looking at those, they look original - well they certainly look as bad as mine do.... so stick with the order - and then let us know what they're like

they look the same as mine, so I would say they are original, as mine are pants, so go for the replacements

I'll be very interested in your results!
MY next Diversion related project is to empty the 10k miles old, 10w fork oil, drill and tap drain holes (that was really stingy of Yamaha), fill with 15w oil, and then potentially replace the springs, but certainly fit preload spacers.
Keep us updated please!

I did that on the 900 (OK, I was too lazy to fit drain plugs) but handling wise all it did was raise the front end ride height and slow the handling slightly. But cheapo 15/40 engine oil worked nicely enough.

I suspect that when I check it my springs will be under length, so guessing spacing them by at least the sag will be a good bodge, and I also fitted a 110/70 instead of 110/80, so it wouldn't be too awful to lift the front back up a little

Thanks for all the replies! I will keep the order for Wilbers springs! As soon as I have installed them I will post again with my findings (can take 2 or 3 weeks because my fork legs are being rechromed at the moment) Thanks again, I think I'm gonna stick around here .

It will be interesting to see how they compare with Hagon progressive fork springs.
