I have a problem with my 92 Diversion 600, the engine runs quite well above 2500 rpm but very lumpy at tick over. I have tried to balance the carbs, 1 and 2 are not far out, the same with 3 and 4. However, I can't balance 1 and 2 against 3 and 4 or get close! Any ideas??? Thanks in advance, Matt.

You have done it correctly by balancing 1 & 2 together then 3 & 4. There is a screw in the middle to allow you to balance both pairs after doing the pairs seperately.

if its running lumpy on tickover, are you sure its not blogged idle jets, or are you still running hot on all four cylinders

I use the 3ft petrol hose system. Hold the hose end just down a carb bellmouth and listen for the click click as the cylinder sucks - its quite loud. Move the hose to the adjacent carb and listen. Adjust until both clicks are equally loud.
I did my 900 like that. Reaper checked it with his professional quality gauges and all four carbs were spot on. Result :-)

It was described in the Haynes manual for my first car - 1275 MG Midget. I also learned to weld thin metal on that car - what a rot box.
Ever since I have always done carbs that way. For the unpractised, it can take a while, so worth mounting the fuel tank on the seat area and connect it up. I used rubber anti slip mat to protect the paint.
Next time you take the air box off have a listen with some suitable hose.

I was totally ripped off buying that thing but it was nice when it worked. Engine was effed I think they put in stop smoke to sell it, seat belt mounts fell off, sills and footwells gone, rear suspension mounts, wiring went up in smoke . Front susp bushed gone etc etc. I learned a lot though.
