The P/O had fitted a pair of tacky looking "carbon fibre" teardrop mirrors on my 600N & I'd been contemplating replacing them for a while. Anyway, last week when riding into work a particularly dozy pigeon decided to clip my r/h mirror. Luckily I was only doing 30ish & managed not to drop the bike however the glass had popped out & the rest of the mirror was flopping around. I whipped the arm off & found the thread in the mount had been chewed beyond use as well. So I went online & ordered a pair of mirrors for a very reasonable £10 (GP SPORT - MRYGPSHT - MRYGPLNG if you want a search for them). They were stocked in the yam mirror section with 10mm thread so thought they'd fit no probs. Turned up in the post yesterday & to my surprise discovered that one's r/h thread & one's l/h thread (sensible) however both mounting brackets on the bike are r/h thread (wtf ). I've removed the r/h bracket & taken the l/h thread mirror to work & managed to convince a bod to put a helicoil insert into the mount & remove the thread on the mirror, weld on a new bar & cut a r/h thread on it. I've now got myself a pair of decent mirrors that I can see more than my shoulders with. ;D just keep away from wildlife from now on! I really think that as part of the licence theory they should teach riders about that magical substance known as copperslip. Every job I've done so far I've yet to come across a single trace of it, every thread's been as dry as a bone Have many others come across similar p/o negligence?
