Hi Guys Been a long time since I've been on this forum! How its all changed! Well, since my off on the GSXF nearly two years ago I've hardly ridden a bike! However the need to reduce outgoings (i.e spend about £15 a week on petrol instead of £50) means its back to the bike (great timing, so sorry for the weather folks, you can probably blame it on me!!!) I can (stupidly) recall that the GSX does about 240KMs to a tank of petrol...but can't remember what the XJ does...I seem to think it's only about 100miles (and yay - after it not running for a while, so being very spluttery when we finally managed to jump start it from the car - running out of fuel on the motorway and being unable to find the fuel tap to go to reserve was great! Then of course with the carbs drained we nearly killed the battery again trying to get restarted. Someone remind me why I keep trying to ride bikes!!!) So can anyone tell me: Petrol tank size (and reserve if poss) and better still Miles TO reserve, and miles ON reserve In case it matters its a 95 (M reg), totally unfaired Cheers guys (a slightly wobbly still) Mel

I have a divi 600 on an N 96 best I have got without going into reserve was 170 and worst was 150 miles. never actually run dry so don't know what reserve can offer but you should get in my oppinion 20 miles.

On a faired S i get upto 180 on main and have pushed a further 20 on reserve. Still had some left in, but i hate running on dregs as you never know what is lurking in the bottom of the tank.

My 600 would do Derby to Cardiff (160 miles) with full luggage and not hit reseve. I generally got about 45mpg, but my brother now has the bike and is getting 60mpg but hs does stick to the speed limits. He also adjusted the TPS (see the tech info section) and it sorted out the consumption. www.dropbears.com/m/models/yamaha/xj600s96.htm

I'd be happy with half that.If I take it really easy, stay below 80ish, I can manage 110 miles from 16 litres. Of course, I ain't got a divvy.......
