OK, i got it all put back together now with the new pieces. I couldn't get in to see the drive pin, I couldn't get the thing opened and I didn't want to apply excessive force in case I broke something else. Also a little clutch rattle seemed to be the least of my worries.
Anyway, have done a few short rides yesterday and today (with plenty of gears changes & traffic lights) and it all seems to be working smoothly.
