Currently looking at possibilities for new tyres on the Fazer having got a puncture There are some pretty good pairs deals available on the net ie Michelin Pilot roads for £137. Question is; if I turned up at a tyre place with new tyres and the wheels asking them to fit them, would that be taking the pee? What is a resonable price for fitting only to loose wheel? Cheers for any forthcoming advice Dave ;D

Just take it and see what they say. I've just had to have a valve replaced on my CX rear. Dad took it in for me to our local tyre place (not bikes), forgot to ask how much. I think you can take it anywhere as long as your rim fits the erm.. thingymajig.... I've got a replacement rear tyre on it's way from the lakes for the Divvy.. so I'm hoping they do that too.

Hi Ade
I don't work in Central London anymore but work at Heathrow very close to Feltham Tyres so may get them to do it.
Up early on the off chance that they or Protyre in Slough may have one in stock today but it's a one in a million chance I reckon.
Cheers
Dave ;D

I would have though you might have gone for Conti Road Attacks instead as I have heard they are a good tyre for a fazer.

If you want it quick & fitted, why not go to Micheldever? They have always had what I've wanted in stock.
As for taking tyres in with a loose wheel - I've never done that so don't know what they 'd want.
If you have the time to buy off the NET to get best price - fitting yourself ain't that bad, help available ;-)

Dave, Martin
From Googling Micheldever tyres recently I get the impression micheldever and Protyre are connected or part of the same company.
Are you stuck at home with a puncture Dave?
I would recommend Protyre any day.

There is a lovely cafe just across the road from them so you can refresh yourself while theydo the fitting. That's sad.... I'd never ever consider my stomach while waiting for a job to be done......

Not that much extra for the convenience, really. I do fit my own sometimes though, it's good to get the know-how, a useful skill to acquire.

I would have though you might have gone for Conti Road Attacks instead as I have heard they are a good tyre for a fazer. That's what just came off and they are heading to Julie's school for plant storage purposes !! Was pretty happy with them generally but the rear did square off and the front was starting to looked stepped after about 6k miles. They do seem to have a habit of getting bits of stone chipping embedded in the tread for some reason. Heard good things from Martin and Reaper re the Diablos so thought I would give them a go. Back to the original question, Feltham tyres quoted me £17 for fitting only to a loose wheel, and Protyre were £15 per wheel. Would recommend Protyre in Slough (same group as Mitcheldever) called them, took the wheels over and only waited 30 mins - not bad for a Saturday morning, and reasonable price too. Now to find time to put them back on and scrub them in. Dave ;D

The BT45s on my 600 started to step, then I found that Bridgestone recommend 33psi & I'd been running 28psi. Anyone any ideas if running tyres at too low pressure makes the tread stepping worse.
PS I'm running the front ContiForce on D900 at 33, so maybe time will tell.

Hmm, sorry, it is a bit cryptic.
I mean its how the tyre blocks wear into a saw tooth/stepped wear pattern. I think each tread blocks bounces slightly when it hits the road. By the time it rebounds the wheel has moved on so the back end of the block is now on the road & wears faster.
If that's true running a higher pressure might reduce some of the bounce. But is anything that simple?
Anyone know anything about this?

Greetings ive had this on every set of tyres ive used (on my 900) O/E Dunlops 505 cheapest deal Metzler Mez4 (or something like that) contiforce and now the Bt020s are doing the same some peeps blame the forks some the sheer weight of the bike or force applied through the front tyre when braking heavily because of the weight of the bike and others say its down to the center line of the tyre is(Hard) designed to outlast the softer bits around the outside me i dont really care i know its going to happen whatever tyres i fit

In reply to the original question, A&B tyres in newbury will do it for £10 a wheel, but you can't rush 'em. I've got a pair of contisport attacks ready for Scotland.... they're going on next week.
