Just looked at the Yamaha 900 manual (can't be that different) and it just says "remove filter bolt" However is there be a hex inside that filter mounting bolt that takes a large allen key?

Never looked inside the central bolt. If oil is leaking from the seal it may be distorting. Remove it , lubricate the seal with clean oil and replace. Grannies and eggs, and all that!! Charlie

Just had a look at a D6 I'm messing about with just now No 2 in your photo has a firkin' great nut half way down it, so you should be able to tighten undo with a spanner/deep socket. HTH. Trev

Same on the D9, big hex nut. Fairly shallow, though, so don't use a spanner with a long lead-in or it may slip and damage the corners of the hex. The sub-base that the oil filter fits onto is located by little pegs and grooves, so make sure these are aligned before re-tightening.

Updated: no leaks at the moment, just a smear of oil thats all. can't ride the bike at this time. i have a clutch problem that i need to post on here. you will need a 27 mm deep socket as shown in photo to undo it.
