Brunstrom investigators meet dead biker's family

Police complaint investigators today met the family of a motorcyclist whose decapitated body was shown in photographs to journalists by North Wales chief constable Richard Brunstrom.
Brunstrom faces possible dismissal over the investigation, by The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC), into his use of graphic photos of Mark Gibney’s fatal crash to launch his road safety campaign.
Paul Beck, the solicitor acting for the Gibneys, said: "At the meeting, the Gibney family expressed their grave concerns over the usage of the photographs and the great upset that the family has suffered and continues to suffer. The Gibney family hope that the investigation will be thorough and quickly completed.”
North Wales Police confirmed after using the images that permission from the Gibney family was not obtained. A spokesman today declined to comment on the matter while the IPCC investigation was underway. He said Brunstrom remained on holiday for a second week.
MCN handed signatures of 1,600 MCN readers demanding Brunstrom’s dismissal to the IPCC last week. An IPCC spokesman said today the investigation would be concluded in “weeks rather than months”.
