hi,
i have bought a bit of a project bike a 600 in need of some TLC first of all i have managed to snap all the exhaust to cylinder head bolts nightmare so i was wondering is there any reason why i cant fit a 900 engine and box?? if so would the exhaust i have just bought fit the 900 engine??
thanks for any help

Where to start? But the main 2 problems I can see are:
900 is shaft drive 900 engine is much larger than the 600 (900 frame has a removable bolt-in section so you can get the engine in and out)
Having said that, I have a 900 engine and frame pretty much complete, left over from a bike I've been breaking, if you want to make me an offer.....

I have a 600 cylinder head with all the exhaust studs cleanly removed and a brand new metal (OEM) cylinder head gasket up for grabs.
I made a list on Saturday of the 600 spares I have that I no longer need, and intend to post the list soon, however if you are interested in the cylinder head and gasket make me a reasonable offer.

Simple answer is that while a big enough hammer will make everything fit everything, you would need a *really f#ing big* hammer for that project.
Either take the engine out and take it to an engineering shop who should be able to clear the threads out, or take up Doofer's offer, especially if you are capable of changing the heads yourself (Not hard, get a Haynes and a torque wrench and most folk should be OK)

Talk to Jen you know it makes sense. I doubt the 600 frame is pysically big enough to take the 900 engine. Souping up the 600 would be easier and buying a Mk1 Fazer would be easier still (and probably less costly).

The xj600s lump has about another 10bhp in there easy, because that's what it lost from the xj600f > xj600s.
The carbs on the s are much much smaller than on the f, so that's the starting point if you want your ponies back from a 600s. Seriously though, I can't imagine why anyone would ever bother trying to tune such an overweight, ugly, ill-handling bike for anything other than better fuel economy.

Not just the carbs - the cams are a lot lumpier on the 600f, and the head design is different. As to the why ? why not ? Yes, it's overweight - all the more reason to extract more power. Ugly ? eye of the beholder stuff. Ill-handling ? nope - yours must be particularly shagged, although the ride is a bit bouncy, they handle well enough.

200 miles over A roads in 4 hours on a Divvie 600 with full luggage suggest its not too bad for handling. A sports bike might be faster (and lots less comfy), but would need some risk-taking to use its power.
For day to day use the Divvie 600 is fine. A bit more power would be nice, but it gets the job done and I like its looks.

Really the only time extra power helps to make better time is where it allows slicker overtakes, so you're not stuck in a queue for ages (as I was on the A303 last Saturday). A D6 will cruise quite fast enough to make sensible, and comfortable, progress otherwise - and still return decent m.p.g.

Chalk and cheese eh? Against that, the Divvie will feel slow dull and bouncy, but for doing what it was designed to do the divvie is fine.

I'd love one, but way too small for me. I have a ZX9-R which fits nicely, and goes mucho quickly

I have a 97 blade, from back when they still had fat arrises. Not as fast as a race-prepped ZX-10 by a long shot, but certainly does me. Decent mpg... would usually get about 56 out the divvy, I get about 38 out the blade. Sometimes I feel bad for the polar bears, sometimes I am just glad I'm not riding the divvy
