I cant get the seat off my bike. The key wont turn in the barrel. Tried some lube but it wont budge.
Any ideas on how to get my seat off without ripping it off and damaging the seat and side panels?

U could try a wire coat hanger to unhook the catch from inside

Sometimes the seat gets slightly out of line and will put too much pressure on the cable. Try pushing the seat down where the catch is and then turning the lock.

I have tried pushing down on the seat, that didnt work.
I cant see how the coat hanger idea can work. The seat catch is underneath the metal under the seat.
I also tried pulling the cable fro the back of the barrel.
I might have to buy another seat/inner mudguard and poss side panels and rip the ones on the bike off with a bar.

dont butcher it just yet. spray with wd40 and leave it. wiggle key back and fore for a while, turn it towards unlock, at the same time whack it hard in the middle of the seat. worked for me. anythings woth a try before the crowbar method

use the coat hanger method, the cable runs at the side behind the plastic, if you tug the cable it will release the latch

I have tried the wd40 but still wont do anything. I will have a go with coat hanger at the weekend. If that dont work I will need some side panels and a seat for a 93 600 (any colour side panels will do and long as they are half tidy)

Can't say i have tried it but been out had took a look at my D6... don't know whats under your sea but hope that there is nothing between the seat lock and the under tray.
Anyway the idea is drill a small-ish hole in the undertray in linw with the catch, then using a flat blade screwdriver to wedge between the latch and the bar on the underside of the seat ?
i guess it might work....

I have some spare side panels if you end up needing them.

use the coat hanger method, the cable runs at the side behind the plastic, if you tug the cable it will release the latch I have done this before and it worked, and I have a 93 model also, you can just see the cable underneath the side panel and I did no damage to mine, dont be soft with it ,give it a quick sharp jerk (no pun inteneded) so it will grasp the inner cable as well as the outer

I went into garage on saturday and got the largest sledgehammer I could find. With left hand I had the key in the barrel, with the right I let the sledge drop onto the seat. After a few hefty blows the key started to turn. I kept going thinking either the key will break or the seat will break. More blows and the key turnned all the way and the seat came off. I then took the seat catch apart and greased it well. Sems to be alright now. I notice where the lock is fixed is just where all the crap flies up under the seat. I will have to keep a closer eye on this.

My 900 was put away in November after the salt had started but well before the really nasty stuff. It was pressure washed and sprayed with preserving oil. Sorted Yes? Erm - NO :-( The amount of corrosion after barely 3 months is scary. The choke was jammed and many carb screws are rusty. Even the rear diff/gear case/back axle thingy is looking rough. And... I can't get the greasy carp off the engine fins. Rant over. Fed up.. PS AT least I'd waxoyled under the petrol tank so that's still looking ok.
