So Mr Blair has told us when he's leaving his post as Prime minister, and today the bank of england annouced yet another interest rate rise, that will get lost in the press due to the more important news of him leaving,, only for browney to get the job, after he helped to increase interest rates..

I don't think Browney will make a good PM....he's to far up his own butt and makes Blair look like a damn good PM!! Which is a lot for me to say considering I'm a Tory voter!! ;D ;D

Now Now Children. Brown is a good Scottish chancellor, finger on the financial pulse of the world. Just what you English need, Scottish guidance.
Personally I'd vote SNP but not because I want independance, Oh no we've still got far too much work to do undermining the English parliament for that.

Not really......I know SNP are naff and Alex Salmond is a two faced t*sser with plans for World domination who cares only about his votes and not his voters. He was in the Old Folks Home that my mum runs a few years back and he spoke down to the residents and wouldn't even shake their hands....he lost a lot of voters that day!!
Gordon Brown has screwed up big style with the Tax Credits...not that it effects me but it's caused problems for many of my friends with kids....thankfully they banked most of the money so could pay most of it back as they didn't think they could be that lucky getting such a large amount......they know only to well what Governments can be like....they're all in the Forces so know first hand what its like to be shafted by 'Them Up There'!

Anything under 15.6% for me is an improvement on those olds days. Around about a third of that rate suits me fine, thank you. *I watched the news last night & the interest rate was 3rd or 4th story - even on the day BEFORE the announcement of the rate change. (.............. 'bout time we got a left-of-centre lot in, instead of these pseudo-Tories . )Management: Can we have a 'politics' forum please? No? Good!!

Have to agree with the right honourable M40Man those were bad dark times and loads of negative equity. As I recall the interest rate when from 4% to 15% in six months. So much for the tories at the time.

Thatcher was the fool who stole the hopes of a generation. I went through my years at school convinced I and all my peers would never get a job, despite being top in every subject. Made me almost give up on my education, and leave school at 15 to take the first job that came along.

Thing is....I remember the hardship my Dad was going through in the RAF back in the 70's when Labour was in power...he was getting paid less than the garbage men but was made to clear the streets when they were on strike. Then Tories came in and he got a pay rise of three times the amount.
To be honest....no MP is worth their weight as far as I'm concerned...they're all the same. Promise the World to get into power and then shaft us little people who got em in.
Balls to em I say!!

Thatcher was the fool who stole the hopes of a generation. Maybe, but looking at it from 2007 the Thatcher years look like a golden liberal age when education was free & wars were just. Personally I think Blair and Bush should go on trial at the Hague for Iraq. If their 'legal advice' was correct and the occupation was/is legal then they have nothing to fear. IMHO Blair's domestic policy had much to commend it but IMHO PM's only get remembered for one thing. For Blair it will be Iraq.

You forgot about doubling the NHS finds for zero return. After Eyerack that's got to be Labours biggest goof of all. Everyone knows if you give the government machine a load of cash they'll use it on nothing and come back for more.
Brown must have known that would happen, in which case he's totally irresponsible and unfit to be Chancellor or PM. Or, he genuinely thought the money would get useful things done. In which case he's a naiive idiot and unfit to be Chancellor or PM.
Roll on the elections.

The RAF clearing the streets? What perentage of bags made it on target into the back of the bin van? 5pc? Mind you the secret raid in the 70's where they went to the Mohne Damn and cleared up all the rubbish and returned to public acclaim must have been incredible!

You forgot about doubling the NHS finds for zero return. Factually bollox & therefore a good reason why this bike forum should avoid politics. My sister in law, currently in ITU receiving the finest help in a fine new NHS facility, & my wife (a nurse) could both rip this statement to bits. (Well - We must see what the future brings for one of them). My father-in-law has also been the recipient of excellent care in fine establishments, with complex conditions that have been life-threatening. Where we don't have access to the facts, we should perhaps avoid opinions. Repeating opinions doesn't make them true, even though it appears some people are fooled, & it undermines the miracles, large & small, occurring in the NHS every day. I tied to avoid responding to this baiting, but just couldn't. The NHS deserves our respect.
