Right, my source for fabricating a new exhaust has dried up due to his nearly losing his hand in a lathe accident.
The situation : Downpipes are pretty fair, collector box has been (pretty well) patched and should survive another 12 months at least. Left hand can in good condition, right hand can blowing hard with a 4"x2" hole in the body of the silencer where metal should be. The bike is a 15k '95 XJ600S in otherwise bloody good condition. I plan on running the bike for about two or three years.
So, options :
1) replace the whole system (cans, collector, downpipes).
2) replace collector box and cans.
3) replace right hand can with a new OE or second-hand OE unit.
4) put a sleeve on the right hand can.
5) Use the existing left hand can and downpipes, changing the collector box to accommodate a 4-in-1 system.
Given the circumstances, which is my best course of action?
I'm throwing myself upon your collective experience and wisdom, and am open to any other suggestions.
Thanks!

Sounds like all you need to do at this moment in time is replace the right hand can, so see if you can get one. The collector isn't a separate item, assuming you've got original exhaust of course - it's part of the down pipes. So you've got downpipes incorporating collector x 2, silencers x 2. If you need some original downpipes later on, let me know

Ah, I see. That helps.
How much of a pain in the backside is it to change a can, and is there any sort of latitude as far as cans go, i.e. will a '94 or '96 can do? how about from a 900?

I'd just patch the can. Aluminium from a tin can and araldite will do for at least a while. If you've all-but written off the can, what do you have to lose by giving it a go? This is depending where the hole is, of course. My D6 came to me with a remus 4>1 full stainless system so, happily, I haven't had this issue to deal with

There's quite a bit of 600 exhaust stuff on fleabay at the mo. Not to mention some rather nice looking Delkevic cans for the 900.
