The oil light on my 600n illuminates occasionally when riding bike too work 1st thing in the morning, oil levels spot on,no rattles clanks or anything .it always comes on ascending a hill just as i leave my village. is this a common wierd idiosynchracy of the 600s??
i usually coast a few second, hit the kill switch and restart bike and it don`t do it again.

Yep, it's a common quirk of the 600, some come on when the bikes on sidestand too , nowt to worry about as long as you know the oil levels ok. HTH. Trev

No it's not. Mine does that when the oil level is borderline too low. The light is attached to a level switch, not a pressure sender. So when the level is borderline, it will dip below in certain circumstances as you describe. Seriously, level ground, engine stopped, top it right up to the top line on the sight window. It'll stop the light coming on (if it's like my bike)

Have to agree with Amorti on this... That light usually only comes on if oil is not at the higher end of the site glass.. Bike has to be upright, and on flat ground when checking the site glass though!

Even a slight sideways tilt will affect the indicated oil level quite seriously. Don't trust it.
I've ranted on before that bikes should have flexible dipsticks (like cars) with the business end centrally located where the level wont change if the bike tilts a little.
