Hiya I was just wondering what are the best gris to get because mine have worn down to nothing and i was curious whther there all generally the same or if some are better. Also what are the best tyres to have on a xj600? and can you get wide ones or what is the widest you can have. Any help appreciated thanks very much

I think you can put any grips on really, but the yammy ones are a little longer than the generic ones so you may want to wait for someone else to come along and suggest some, if you're concerned about how they look.
Of course if you're planning on riding through Winter, you may want to look at heated grips.
As for tyres it seems that the favourite are the Bridgestone BT45's.
It appears that you can fit a wider tyre on the rear as mine is using a 140/70-18 on a standard rim. Seems to handle well anyway (but I'm currently on a Pirelli Match which don't look like they're no longer available).

Another good tyre for the 600 is the Pirelli sport demon - comparable to the BT45 and you should get away with a 140. worth going for a slightly lower profile so you don't affect the ride height too much.

Bt'45's here. Not tried any others as that would require a pair to be changed... Just added a new pair of grips, all of £3.50 from auto jumble. Cheapest ones there. Had Bike.it plastered all over the packet. Seem to be alright after a couple of short rides.

Heated grips are the bizz, I wouldn't be without them now ;D Indeed they are... those and a Scottoiler are in my opinion the most essential equipment. However you may encounter fitting issues with a Scotty on a 900 or FJR.

Deffo heated grips. I had Hein Gericke on the 600 and Oxford on the 900. The controller sits nicely on the LH fairing by the petrol tank.
The HG controller is small and neat, but has only 2 settings. The Oxford has better control but controller is PUG UGLY. I've recently fitted bar risers so will be moving the controller to between the h-bar brackets. On balance I prefer the Oxford. I avoided the electonic contoller because I didnt want it cutting out on low voltage. I also fitted a relay wired off the ignition, because I would deffo forget to switch them off. They pull about 4 amps so dont really need one to protect the wiring.
I used BT45s on the 600. Loved em, but make suer you use the Bridgestone recommended pressure 33 front & 40 rear. They need to be pumped up compared to some other brands.
The 900 has ContiForce which seem to be good. I got the Contis from M&P £120 the pair plus fitting.

(1) Just thought I'd drop that one in Glad I did. Went out in blazing sun the other week & grips were hot. Hadn't turned them off since last time or I'd caught the switch. Battery would have been a useless lead brick without the relay.

Agree the twiddly knob box is UGLY. I didnt want the fully electronic controller because it cuts off on low battery voltage. Its been said they'll do that starting the bike with lights on. I'm sure it resets when ignition turned off but I didnt want the hassle.
