Dear all, firstly congratulations on a great forum. I have been reading regularly since returning to biking in the autumn to save money. Apologies for not posting before I had my first problem...........
I have a problem with my 96 XJ600S: I want to remove the clutch housing to carry out the infamous rattle fix. Tried locking with a screwdriver as per Reapers DVD but no joy just lots of scratches on the cage. Got a quote for the Yamaha tool at nearly £50 with the VAT (unbelievable) So has anyone tried making the Haynes Tool? I can't quite see how it can work - surely if you can bend the ends of the metal strips then they will bend when you use it? Can anybody please recommend a method that has worked for them?
I look forward to any advice from the forum.
Cheers

I just used the same method as the screwdriver but I use a wide flat wood chisel

It will be easier with the clutch plates removed, but take care to not bend the clutch basket.
