Hi Management Peeps
Would I be right in assuming that someone has had to fork out to register the Yamaha Diversions domain name ? Please could management confirm this.
If so I propose that from the Postcombe run collection we reimburse whoever has paid for it. The remainder can go to charity.
All those in favour .....................

Hi All, I paid for the www.yamahadiversions.com domain name and space last year. The idea was to put up all the run photos, turn it into a functioning site and then politely ask for donations. However, I paid up front for 2 years and can't remember how much it was, it certainly wasn't expensive, once the 2 years is up the costs may well change. Put what you raise this year to charity, then next year when the webspace and domain are up for renewal I will calculate the annual cost for the year and ask for donations towards them. (any funds raised above the running costs would of course go to the club charity) The site isn't complete yet and I wouldn't feel right asking for donations until it is. Doof

Dave ;D Might be better to have a Pay Pal account so those of us who can't make Postcombe can contribute a few pennys? Either way, *great idea*. However it's going to cost me money so I've smited you!

Hmmm, I'm not convinced. You may have fooled everyone else on the boards by changing your handle between here and the old site, but I know who you really are!!

And now back to the thread ......
My domain registration costs £10.52 or thereabouts for two years. If you are paying more than that you are paying well over the odds. If you are paying less I would like to know.
Shouldn't take much of a whip round to make that much money every two years.

Ed,
I assume that doesn't include hosted webspace
The yamahadiversions.com domain name also has 3GB of hosted webspace capable of handling asp, database connections and other similar facilities (something that my personal webspace provided by my ISP doesn't do), so I am also paying for that.
As I say, the initial 2 year signup was not expensive (about $50 for the 2 years IIRC) so I am happy to cover that myself, but if people wish to donate towards it from June 2008, when those 2 years expire, I will graciously accept any assistance with the costs.
The domain itself is currently charged as $8.95 per year and once the 2 year package offer expires the current charging rate is $7.75 per month (although I think that also pays for the domain). If I am offered another package deal offer then I am proboably going to accept it. At the current charging rate (assuming the domain name is included in the cost and not billed seperately at $8.95) the webspace and domain name combined converts to approximately £50 a year at current exchange rates.
I haven't shopped around recently as there seems little point when I still have 18months prepayed hosting to use, but if anyone thinks this is expensive and has any suggestions for other hosts to look at, please let me know
However the host must be able to support asp and database connections and be reliable, I have personally used this host for a number of years in connection with my university work (I used the free package then, but this is very restrictive regarding traffic and does not support domain names)
Another method of covering some of the costs would be to have banner ads on the yamahadiversions.com site, this is not something I am considering, I'd like to keep this place as ad-free as possible.
It may be possible to integrate the discussion forum fully with the yamahadiversions.com domain at some point, this is something I am prepared to look into, but I need to be sure that we have more than enough hosted webspace to do so or we will start to have similar problems to those we are having with MSN.

I say we have a collection at Postcombe for what Doofer has paid out anyway
This is a free club, why should anyone be out of pocket.
Regards
Dave ;D

Regards Dave ;D Well we remembered the whip round (thanks Oscar) and a cheque for £35 will be on the way to Doofer. Thanks to everyone that put their hand in their pocket. Hope this will help cover some of the costs for now Doof. Best wishes Dave ;D

Thankyou Everyone (especially Oscar, you're a star),
I am certain that more than covers the site costs until June 2008, so the change can go back into the pot for our nominated charity (what's happening with that this year?) I'll check the bill but am pretty sure it worked out to about £25.
