I would go to Yamaha, cant be that costly (can it?). Ebay breakers might have one but who knows how old it might be.

spring or maybe a sticking cable? I had the same problem and i lubricated the cable and it sorted it. yours might be different though.

I've generally found that lubrication wont do much for sticking Japanese cables. The inner cable has a nylon or PTFE sleeve which works well at cutting friction and even better if lubed. But once it wears through the cable starts to stick the only option is new cable.
Take it off the bike and hang it up so you can dribble engine oil down it and see what happens.
