Hi folks, just saw that paprika has a new screen. Can you tell me what sort it is, what height you are, and where did you get it? It's not that I am nosey or anything its just that I would like one myself! I have heard that if you are above a certain height its not good but I might give one a try. Thanks Stuart

Tall filp screens are horrible for turbulence, I cut about 2" off the top of mine and it's still only just OK. I think it comes down to the XJ's fairing design, which simply isn't very clever.

I'm looking for a screen that will cut down the horrendous wind noise AND avoid turbulence. My 900 came with a medium height flip that was totally horrible. I could not go over 50 without getting a headache from the turbulence. My bro has a 2000 model CBR 600 which is almost silent by comparison and there's no turbulence, so it is possible to get comfort* and no noise.
*Only snag - I hate the riding position, but at least there's no wind buffeting.

apologies for not responding sooner.. I haven't been here for a while. I don't know if I'm too late now but I'll do some measuring tomorrow and try to get back. I'm 5.8 - the screen is ok, but very noisy over 50mph. I'm putting the original back on for summer.

I'm 5'11" & have a Skidmarx superflip screen.
Don't notice any turbulence or noise but then I've not tried anything else to compare it with.
Can certainly do 60 with visor up.

I have an MRA spoiler screen on my D900. It was expensive and does not do what it says on the tin.
The low position spoiler does nothing and the screen flip simply causes noise and some turbulence.
The high position works like a wall and does nothing for the noise instead you get headache causing turbulence.
I cut 2" off the top of my MRA and made longer struts for the spoiler. Its better but still not very good.

I'm 6'4 so I'm buggered regardless. When I bought my D6 it had a taller screen fitted, which does a fairly decent job. Tried the original screen once (and once only) and felt like I was riding behind a water cannon.

the real route of the problem is the distance of the screen to the rider. that's why the DB screen on my fireblade is excellent, but the higher screen on my divvy is rubbish. Still, not much you can do except maybe try to fit clip ons to the divvy?! and so we adapt existing screen designs as well as we can.

Maybe the superflips work because the huge length brings the top closer to the rider. But I'm still not convinced by the flip top.
I may well follow Bernard's advice and go for a Skidmarx superflip with a P-strip edge (see his posts).
In the meantime if I can find the material or a small screen I fancy cutting all of the flip off my MRA and making a "spoiler" the size of a small bar mounted screen. The MRA spoiler is only 3" deep and the width of the main screen. I can then faff about with secondary screen angles and lengths and see what happens.

To add to what's been said before.......I bought a flip screen for mine. I'd guess it's about 5-6 cm taller than the standard one. From about 40mph on, the noise & turbulence is really bad. If I crouch right down over the tank, then I get good protection. Or, if I stand up a bit on the pegs, then I'm above the turbulence & in the regular air which is much better. Obviously, I don't want to do either! End result is that I was better off with the original.
I'd suggest either going for a standard sized screen or something really tall touring screen to protect you. The tall screens aren't my bag so I'm going back to original. If you can test drive other bikes with different screens then you could be saved an expensive mistake.

Exactly my experience with a medium flip, but not yet managed to get hold of a standard Divvie 900 screen. That said, I wasn't impressed with the std D600 screen.
I'm sure its the flip that causes the turbulence and would like to try a longer convex screen with no flip, but no-one makes one. They all seem to assume we want a flip on the top.
