As Mrs S-P has expressed an interest in riding out so I was looking for an intercom set. Nothing fancy helmet to helmet none of this bluetooth malarki.
Got to be a reasonable price in case she goes off the idea.

A couple of years ago, I bought the intercom set that Aldi were selling at the time. If I remember correctly, it cost me less than a fiver. It comprised of an ear piece, that hooked over your ear, that was also connected to a flexible stalk, that had the microphone on it, that subsequently bent around to where your mouth is situated. It looks similar to the microphones that singers use on TV these days. A wire leads from the ear piece to a small control box, that had a volume button on it and you keep that in your pocket. The rear passenger has their wire leading to the same control box. You just have to remember to diconnect from each other when you get off your bike. I must say, it worked extremly well. Do not be put off by their cheapness. They are well worth a try. I am still using them to this day. The only problem we have, is that my other halfs ears are very small and the piece that you put around your ear, irritates her after a couple of hours. I am currently looking for some soft rubber tubing to try and eliminate that problem. I have, during the time that I have had them, tried to upgrade. I purchased some Oxford, rider to pillion intercoms, approx £40. What a waste of money. With those, you fit twin speakers actually in to your helmet and microphone at the front. They are a nightmare to fit, as you are relying on sticky pads to hold the things in place and a multitude of wiring running around the inside of your helmet, when you eventually get your helmet back together, I gave up in the end You can buy the cheap ones on E Bay or some m/c shops sell them. Do not spend more than a tenner, or you have been robbed. As I say, for what they cost I think you will be surprised at how well they work and of course, if your partner decides biking is not for her, you have not lost a great deal. I am sure that there are others on the site, that have got some all singing and dancing coms, but they come at a price. Hope this helps

An intercom can be a great thing or a curse If the pillion isn't warned not to distract the rider by idle chatter especially at bits of the road where concentration is vital, then fall outs will occur. I wouldn't be without one now when me and my good lady are out together. We went through the cheapos which were a real pain, Oxfords and Bike Mike, and eventually got an Autocom. Extremely satisfied with it. It's a simple wired system and the price is a lot lower now than we paid 6 years ago. Good luck ;D
