Have to say I don't think they are legal in the UK . Having done some research and spoken to Inspector at local Traffic Office, Highways Agency and finally DOT The consensus is that even though it is reflective light, it has to be red to the rear, with some exceptions like yellow for the number plate. White seems like a major no no. All the more reason to fit 'em then, you rebel, you . .......... it would make a great court case..... ............. M'lud, I was proceeding in a crim-catching direction when I noticed this miscreant biker. If he hadn't made the effort to make himself so conspicious & thereby a safer road-user, I wouldn't have seen him". ..... doesn't sound like a case many plods would want to bring!

May I add m'lud the micreant used to own a Fazer, I recommend we go easy on the lad as he has learned the error of his ways.

I did put red ones on the 01 (Tiggers FJR as above) but decided against it on the new one & decided to go for the Black & White reflective Decals. Just placed an order for some Red Ones The BLACK/White ones CAN however go on the FRONT panel of the Pannier though Thats NOT Illegal and looks rather smart if I do say so myself ;D

(2) No vehicle shall be fitted with a lamp which is capable of showing any light to the rear, other than a red light, except- (q) reflected light of ANY colour from retro reflective material (like the panels in question) OR a retro reflector designed primarily to reflect light to one or both sides of the vehicle and attached to or incorporated in any wheel or tyre of- (i) a pedal cycle and any sidecar attached to it; (ii) a solo motor bicycle or motor bicycle combination; or So personally I think we Illegals are very legal but thats my own untrained in a court of law opinion Matt I did put here, but on re-reading, I think the or is between reflective material and reflector, meaning either have to be fitted to the wheel (as Pooh as now confirmed). I'm changing it here so I don't look so foolish! Too late! Trev

Just a thought... Dont police cars have blue and white chevron reflective panels on the rear. Those white areas can't be legal so is there any difference in law between them and the FJR stickers.
I dunno, but its a thought.

Well............................................
After I went to see our Local Traffic Officer, he looked into it for me, he has told me the following:
"I have checked with the D.O.T and the current legislation the Rear reflectors you have fitted to the Panniers of your FJR are NOT illegal"
"As they are fitted to your panniers they are classed as removable, they are not classed as a permanent fixture of the motorcycle and as such do not come under the lighting & reflective laws governing Motorcycles"
He also said they looked great and he would be getting some for his FJR
So there you go..................... My BLACK Reflective Decals are NOT Illegal & are staying ON the Bike ;D
