Not been out on the bike proper for a wee while with the weather not being all that great now. The bike is kept in a timber garage cement floor and stood on a carpet area and usually on the center stand and uncovered . She started up not too bad but when i put the choke off after roughly 30secs up to a minute and moved it out of the garage she cut out then fired up again but when idle would would run and conk out as if it was run out of fuel but has plenty in , is this the carb freeze or whatever they call it the divi is prone too?and how would i prevent it happening if i can?? The bike is now back in garage but with a rug over engine /tank and covered up fully .
cheers Drew

And there to stay till spring I suppose another wimpy jock using carb icing as an excuse not to go out.
Be a man like me admit that because the forcast said showers with possible sleet its to cold and damp to go out today ;D
Neil
PS carb icing happens when running at speed\higer revs\throttle open not tick over I'm afraid you will have to look else where for your problem.

Just take it out, run it gently to start so it builds up some warmth, then should be peachy. As above, it's not carb icing, it's just a bike(r) that doesn't like the cold

If the bike has not been used for a very long time the petrol can go off. A warm garage (e.g. heated by the sun) can make it go off faster. Best to get it down the petrols station and fill with posh petrol. Otherwise its probably in a mood because its not been out for a ride recently.

My bike usually goes in a mood if I don't use it for a while, but always starts. I keep the choke on for at least a couple of minutes, knocking a bit off every 30 secs or so.It was a tad cold here yesterday. Went for a wee run, bought a coffee, not to drink - just to hold for a while! Charlie

its not been that long since i last went out on it infact was filled up at that time too . I think i'll try keepin choke on for longer than i usually do and as charlie does . hopin to get out this week for a wee blast to see how it runs then and hopes its fine for 13th dec (dumfries toy run) and 21st dec for the yorkhill toy run .

Hi Drew. Mine lives outside, and if not used for a week or so, and its cold does the same. If i dont catch it on the first turn of the key, and fettle the throttle to keep it going it wont start again! I put it down to the block being cold I poured a kettle of boiling water over it to warm it up and it did the trick! HTH. Steve.

I had a similar problem with my old Thundercat after it had been stood for about three weeks. Turned out the rubbishy cheap unleaded I'd put in (from Asda) had jellified in the pilot jets. I tried various additives in the petrol tank, but nothing worked so in the end I had to dismantle all four float chambers and take out the jets to clean them - a right pita.
Now I always fill it up with fancy stuff (Shell V-Power or equivalent) if I know it's going to stand for a bit. I've also fitted allen screws to the float chambers as the original Phillips jobbies are made of SH-1-T grade steel.

Second thoughts - it could be water in the petrol, either in the tank or just the float chambers. Try draining the float chambers and inspect the stuff you get out to see if it's got any signs of water globules in it.

I found water in my tank due to a kinked drain tube, so perhaps the divvy is prone to it? I know the main breather kinks easy, maybe the pipes they used were cheap??
