I've started to commute on the bike, and am worried about putting the laptop in the tank bag - only soft luggage on this one. I'm worried about the effect of the magnets on the computer especially the hard drive. Anyone got any experience of laptop / tank bag interfaces? RMJ
PS. No one in this part of the US filters. Tried to do the correct thing yesterday - 40 minute commute. Filtered this morning and it took 8.

I wouldn't recommend the tank bag. I usually use a Rucksack or my top box.
The magnets could well have an effect on your drives.
Checked this with some other techies in the office and we're all agreed

I would have thought that a tankbag wouldn't be big enough to hold a laptop (+ power cable, accessories, paperwork). Plus the ride might be too harsh on the tank for the laptop without decent packing and add packing to all of the above would you have room? I use a laptop rucksack. If I go to work - and that's a 60 mile trip down the M40 - on the CX then I wear the rucksack which holds everything and to be honest I don't really know I've got it on. However if I'm using the TDM then I put the rucksack in my Givi 52ltr topbox. Fortunately I go to the office very rarely

I commute & just bungie my laptop (in it's case!) on the pillion seat. Reasonable padding, quick to secure & release.

I sling AIT and LTO tapes in my tankbag every day, and never have a problem with them.......

Agree with Pebbles - magnets & vibes. I also find that a tank bag can upset the Divvie 600 handling more than a heavy top box/panniers.
I have a Dell Inspiron desktop replacement (15" screen & almost a luggable) but it goes neatly into a Targus bag, the type with wheels & extending handle. It's well padded and straps to the seat/carrier with bungee cords. Work files always get backed up to CD as even a slow speed tumble could so easily wreck the laptop.

Cannot remember who it is, but I have seen a rucksack specially made with the laptop in mind. It is a normal rucksack and has a hard outer shell and is areodynamically formed. Had a look at it a couple of years ago when I went to the Ali paly, cost, about £99.00.
Looked good too!

I have decised that the clean clothes go into the tank bag and the A4 sized lap top (spare power cable and mouse in the office) goes into a lightweight canvas bag that throw over on shoulder, or I strap to the pillion seat with a cargo net, depending on how far/fast I'm going. That said, I keep staking the lap top next to the tank bag when I'm locking up for the day. Duuh! RMJ
