the choke on my divvy works on a all or nothing principle full on to start but it revs the b.lls off it if u try to push it back a bit it dies and even if u have been stopped for as little as an hour u still need to use full choke i have checked the air filter that is seated and new is it just a case of having the carbs balanced or can the choke be adjusted on its own
thanks keith

I know all bikes are diffrent but mine will start withour choke now, just needs a twist of the throttle when hitting the starter. Having said that it also needs a twist with the choke on.
Could be you have a hole in one of the rubbers around the carbs.

The choke is really a fuel enrichment jet that is opened by a plunger at the side of th carb so it is on or off. If the bike is revving too much the choke mechanism should have an adjusting screw to alter the amount of fast tickover it causes when the choke is on.
On my 900 I start it and as soon as the revs rise, 2 or 3 seconds, I shut the choke and olny open it again if the engine stutters.
My 600 always flooded on choke so never used it. Winter starting was bad until the throttle position sensor was adjusted. Instructions in Haynes and possibly in the club technical section.
