Got an issue where the wheel spindle has hit the silencers on my full Motad system, I've tried fitting spacers etc on the hangers but can't get enough clearance (without misaligning the silencer to collector joint) to avoid this happening again. Has anyone managed to resolve this problem on the Motad Silencers, if so can you let me know (preferably with photos) how you've done it. Cheers Pete

Hiya Ray, Sorry no photo`s But a couple of bit`s of 3by 2 and a bit of brute force on the footrest hanger will sort it.
Been there did that

1 Remove exhaust can from bike. 2 Place exhaust can on thick soft pad of foam rubber. 3 Hit can a few times with lump hammer at appropriate point. 4 Try on bike and check for correct wheel spindle exhaust can interface. 5 Repeat 1 to 4 until modified pipe / wheel spindle interface is acceptable.

See where you're coming from Chirodave, just worried about internal damage to baffles if I start wacking it. Cheers Pete

The wheel spindle wont be too bothered about the baffles so in the long run its probably not going to make much difference.
I fairness I agree there is a risk, but the baffles should be welded in place so I would personally take the risk.

I just bent the bracket out so the pipe sat further away from the spindle, like wot Keith said. Only difference is I used 2x2, not 3x2, but he is the expert, so use 3x2 It has got to be better than messing up the exhaust flow by banging big dents in the can and crushing the baffles.

Glad it's not just me then! Mine did exactly the same. I also bent - er - adjusted the bracket using a vice and a ball ended hammer.
good luck

Spike does yours completely miss the spindle now then? as tried that with mine but just can't get the clearance as the position of the collecter box won't allow any more movement. Cheers Pete

Mine hit the spindle but adding a spacer and bending the bracket makes it miss the spindle. Alternatively you could grind 2mm off the spindle

I put a large bar down inside the pipe, against the wheel and gently coaxed the silencers away from the bike. It needed redoing about three times over a month for silent running to be achieved, but I couldn't be bothered to strip and reassemble...

Is the collecter box bolted to the engine underside?. If so, maybe elongating the bolt hole sideways a few mm would allow enough movement for to silencer can clear the suspension.

HI Pete - Yeh with a bit of fettling and using a washer or two as mentioned to push the silencer out it cleared the spindle. Having said that, my bike recently went in for a carb balance and the mech said summats blowing. So I removed the whole lot, and am still trying to sort it. I have shoved my rusting originals back on till I sort it. I have had the Motad for about five or six years but I have never been happy with it. I certainly wouldn't buy another.
Cheers

Paid Motad's factory a visit today to get this issue with hitting the spindle sorted out once and for all and well worth the visit as they had to custom make a hanger for the silencer and now the clearance is as it should be on both sides, so no chance of getting any more dings in the silencers and in the process they put on 2x brand new silencers, with no quibble, so feel I got a result there. They restored my confidence in customer service! Cheers Pete
