I am considering placing a higher wind-shield on my 1999 600S.
I use the bike mainly for a daily 50kms (30miles) commute in and out of work (mostly busy motorway riding no more than 100kph - 60mph) - I am thinking this might make the ride a little more comfortable.
Does anyone have any experience of this ? Any pros and cons versus the standard wind-shield ?
Also anyway of getting rid of the wind noise ? or is that by design ?
Thanks

I have found that standard screens are usually quiet but offer less protection from wind blast as the wind blast is usually about chest level, taller screens usually take the wind to visor level which creates the extra noise although relieves pressure felt at speed. if you wear earplugs it shouldnt really be a problem. Trev (teejayexc) has a really tall screen on his 900 that takes the wind blast over the top of the helmet and is very quiet and effective, you can ride with the visor up at any speed, looks pretty carp though

got one on mine, no probs at all, and with the lean back risers things are a lot more comfortable now, just try to get a one with the air duct near the top of the screen, this stops any buffeting and I dont really get any noise that I have noticed, the wind tends to travel just above head height, so its down to how tall you are really

I'm 5' 8" and haven't found a flip screen that doesn't cause headache inducing turbulence.
A cut-off shorter screen to take the turbulence below neck level might help with wide screen on adjustable legs so you can fine tune for rise and angle (ooh mrs). But no-one makes anything for a Divvie that looks likely to work.
I have an MRA screen on the 900. They also do one for the 600. BUT IMHO the original design with flip is carp. I cut off most of the flip and that reduced the turbulence. I also lengthened the front legs on the spoiler so it now sits at a shallow angle to smooth the air over the rider's head. Its way better than the original setup but it could be better.
If you are not sure try out some ideas with heavy cardboard and gaffer tape. That's how I found out my MRA screen was actually too tall.
When I tried a 1999 Honda CBR 600 I expected the wind blast to be horrible - it wasn't. The bike was incredibly quiet to ride. The single curve screen allows the air to flow smoothly around the helmet so no noise. A spoiler might have pushed airflow higher but then the noise and turbulence would probably hit the rider's head. What Yamaha were on when they designed the Divvie screens I don't know.
At least for me, the CBR was horribly uncomfortable in every other respect and I prefered the Divvie power delivery.

I cut about 4 inches off a tall flip screen because the turbulence was bliddy awful. don't bother.

I have a Givi Higher type screen , was on the bike when I bought it, so don't have experience of the shorter type, I have to say it is good no wind pressure at all at speed .. It is noisy but I now wear ear plugs which makes it a lot more comfortable.

I had a standard screen on my D6, but my D9 arrived already fitted with a taller screen, it definitely relieves virtually all the wind pressure, but I HAVE TO wear earplugs, the noise is horrendous I'm 6' 2"" and of large build. Can anyone identify the make of screen fitted to my bike? I haven't got any photo from the front as yet, but hopefully these pics will help. Unfortunately the screen is red , I'd personally much prefer a clear one, but it is in great condition and it seems daft swapping it, unless I can get a much quieter one.

It's V similar to the one mine came with, could be Skidmarx in that case*. I suggest chopping it down til the point it flips up - yes it's a lot off, and it leaves little more wind pressure, but nearly eliminates the noise. The screen on mine also created awful turbulence, it really had a tendency to grab you head and bob it round at motorway speeds. Trimming it stopped that. Trimming it to just above the flip did help, but I think it's that flick that makes things worse.
*That said yours has the slit in it like original, mine doesn't. That won't help with noise or turbulence either. It's not hard to work out - smooth is slippery!

I did the same, about four inches off a flip screen, but I left the flip and cut the excess off the bottom , works a treat, I can ride with an open visor comfortably at motorway speed and slightly above.

I too have a taller screen,i don't know who it's made by. but i find it really good to have.I am about 5'7" & find that the wind just catches my helmet & i do wear ear plugs or my mp3 player. p.s i also find that it keeps most of the water off when it's raining. Ray

But you see, that screen's a _lot_ taller, and you're not the tallest chap on the board. A screen needs to direct wind right over your head, or around about your neck. At your visor is the worst of all, which is what I and I guess teejay found.
